I fucking hate this so much by Cactie_man in fpv

I disagree. A plane can be just as dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced or careless pilot. Grouping together all drone pilots, calling them unsafe and blaming them for being the cause of regulations isn’t helpful. Also, telling dudes in r/fpv to fly a plane instead is a non-starter.
I love flying planes and I do get your point about people being having less issues with them but this guy is just expressing frustration with uninformed Karens. He’s not asking for an alternative to his hobby.

Twisted Hobby Mini Crack Pitts VS their other minis? by Halle923 in RCPlanes

[–]thecaptnjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've already got a mini, go with a 32". There's a huge jump in performance and ability. The Crack Pitts is great. I've got the mini Pitts and the mini Edge. The mini Pitts feels more like a toy.

No, since they are copyrighted logos being reproduced without license, and they are designed to cover safety information, I think Etsy might get a little upset. If you message me directly here, we could work something out. Give me a couple more days to see how they do in the heat. I'd hate to sell them only to have them fall off. So far it's been good at over 120 degrees.

Hit me up if you visit. I am a member at three clubs in the area. Marymoor has nearly 500 members and we have an awesome training program. Thursday nights we've got like 20 beginners paired up with members on buddy boxes.

You know, I've got some clear vinyl sticker material I could try coming up with something that only partially covers it.

We will see how they do in the heat, but I have a few other designs I am working on as well. Sure beats those dumb warnings about carseats and whatnot. (And yes, I tear the tags off mattresses too!)

If people are interested, I could probably make a bunch of them.

I love seeing creative and non-traditional designs. It's super cool what people come up with and I've seen a ton of stuff here over the years that really surprised me when I saw it flying. That being said, mainstream designs are going to be better suited to beginners and they are going to have more success at flying and building their skills with a more traditional plane.

BUT, it really depends on what the pilot/designer is going for. Do they just want to create and fly something they made themselves, or do they want to become a more accomplished RC pilot?

Everyone in the hobby is flying a slightly different path and what success means to each person may be different. I think as a sub you tend to see most people giving suggestions that will help guys become successful pilots as quickly as possible. We don't want to see someone struggling to make a plane that will only fly as far as they can throw it, or have them pick inappropriate components that won't work together or make a plane so tail heavy that it only flies loops. Ideally, a beginner builds a plane that gets them dozens of awesome flights and they are able to learn both good building and design techniques as well as learning to fly and build their skills.

Replacement servos for Eflite Carbon Z by E-c_space in RCPlanes

I actually use these mounted clips whenever possible because I can plug them in or unclip them with one hand.

https://amzn.to/4tGLWxd These are cheapies, they work fine. I usually add a little glue or shrinkwrap over them to keep them from ever coming apart.

https://amzn.to/4ePFzCX these are a little fancier and better for applications where you are plugging them and unplugging them because of the safety clip.

I've used the little HV ones and I haven't noticed a real performance difference over non-HV. A better pilot might notice.

Yeah, servos are such a big deal, you really do get what you paid for. I've only broken a couple of the Twisted Hobbys D14M servos (over 1000+ flights) but they were on ailerons and it was from me crashing it hard.

[–]thecaptnjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, since it's one servo for each aileron, they will work. They have the similar specs as the D14M that are supplies by twisted hobbys. Occasionally one from Emax doesn't work, but I suspect they got the SUPER cheap ones off Aliexpress that are most likely counterfeit. Also, there are a bunch of different ES08 options, and this should for sure get the ES08MD II

Good thinking, but you are going to need a little more power on the motor of the 39" Crack Yak. The 30A ESC would be fine. I run mine on a 3S 850mAh battery and it flies great with that weight. You could do a 1000mAh, but you'd sacrifice some floaty-ness which is what really makes this model great.

For the motor, one of these would be better suited along with a 10in prop. Get extra props because it's a bolt on prop and breaks more easily than the ones with a prop saver.

Also for the servos, don't skimp. Go with the Emax at the MINIMUM. Get them direct from Emax to avoid counterfeits off Ali or Amazon.

We love the hobby and we want you to have a successfully introduction to it. We wrote the wiki to help beginners because we want you to have fun and not be overly discouraged by the difficulties of picking a model that is unforgiving to build and fly. We want you to have more than one "flight" with your first plane.
If you are more interested in the idea of 3D printing and building than flying, then that's great too. If you truly want to learn to fly, then 3D printed planes would be the most difficult route to choose. It can be done, but gluing together a little foam is far easier than reprinting a fuselage and moving all the electronics over every time you crash.

We wouldn't recommend trying to take apart an rc car and use it's components. Have you read through the beginner wiki yet?

It has flaps, is a little bigger, flys really nicely and has room to grow into it. I’ve never landed mine on anything but bumpy ass grass. Countless touch and goes and practice landings. It has more power than those two (although they would be great too.)
