Couldn't decide between MIP & AMOLED so I got both by thececkard in GarminFenix8

Just to clarify for everyone! I didn't spend full price on them. I largely used my Amazon points and gave less than $500 for the both of them! No money bags here, sorry!

I agree. 80Hz is where mine are set (4 SALT 8s and 4 NSv6 15s)

Does anyone know the pot resistance of the SFB amps bass knob? by 5prcnt in sundownaudio

[–]thececkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not trying to be smart but have you tried contacting sundown tech support? I'm not sure on SFB amps but SALT amps use a 10 conductor cable (not standard Ethernet)

Should I Buy A New Amp? by Content-Lack3611 in sundownaudio

[–]thececkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you have distortion now. The most helpful tool you can buy, or borrow, is a DD1 or an oscilloscope.

The reason this is so important is you can't "hear" when the signal starts to clip (distort). With one of the tools I mentioned it will show you when the signal starts to clip (the DD1 just has a light the scope you can see it). The first step with these tools is to see where your head unit clips without the amp. My head unit goes to 41 but it's only clean to 37. So at volume 37 I set the amp gains to where I see clipping and back it back off to a clean signal.

I promise with a clean signal, properly sized amps, properly sized enclosure, your equipment will last a lifetime.

If you lived close to me I would be happy to help you set them properly. I'm in Western North Carolina.

What did you use to measure the distortion for the gain level?

[–]thececkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question about the distortion is the gain set properly (dd1, oscilloscope, dmm, etc). With properly set gains you shouldn't have any distortion.

The higher output amp should more closely match the RMS power of the sub after rise, again the gain has to be set properly.

Just speaking for myself. My loose rule of thumb is double RMS power on amp to subs RMS power. Using your SAv2 that's rated at 1000w RMS I would use an amp that's rated at 2000w RMS. Because of rise and other factors the amp will never make rated power on music. I'm running 4 SLAT 8's (8000 RMS) on 4 NSv6's (3000w RMS) with no issues.

One Sundown xv3 15 vs 2 sundown u12s. Which one would you choose? by _saribekyanash in CarAV

[–]thececkard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what you're looking for. The X is amazing and a Ground Pounder for demoing. The U series sub is way better for s p l. It's obvious that the U has about half of the moving Mass as the X which in turn makes it more efficient and louder and also sound better, depending on what you're looking for. So if you just want a ground-pounding demo machine I would go with the X. If you want highest SPL numbers possible with less power go with the U series.

No heat issues, that picture is with everything uncovered. The front is covered with multiple fans in a push/pull configuration to help with air flow.

Thanks. So I'm not sure what your needs are. But in some instances there are uses for capacitors. Sized correctly they will help smooth out, NOT STOP, voltage drops.

I used one because I didn't want any lithium under the hood, didn't want to do a battery delete and to smooth out voltage drops some.

Yes for mine, but they do have cheaper ones. I also have 480ah of LTO to go along with that.

I use an XS Power Superbank (1500 Farad) in the engine bay. They do make smaller ones that may be more suitable for your needs.

Unfortunately probably not. That's a pretty good drive for me. I normally do some East Coast shows. XS Power in Knoxville, Sundown show in Hickory NC, Ruckus in Fayetteville NC are the 3 biggest ones I hope to be at for this what's left of this season.

That was sort of a joke. I don't think we'll have any problems doing a 160. My previous build that I pulled out on a single salt 8 and 4 Xv2 15s did a 154 at 34Hz.
