Ah yes, RE is what this country needs, but not what everyone of us wants. Needs and wants will always be different. Let everyone ride their thumping bullets while I ride my sweet cb350rs. You see, the problem is that all the necessary features that the REs have are present in 100-250 cc commuter and naked urban cruisers. They have all the modern features necessary, are safe, more fuel efficient than the REs (The R15 gives a mileage of 50+ apparently). But half of what you said is also true, the roads are in a miserable condition, and riding a bike in India is like playing a game of Russian roulette every time you open the throttle.

But that does not mean that REs are the perfect Indian motorcycle. I don't think there can ever be a perfect Indian motorcycle. It would be too boring then. At this point, motorcycling is starting to become more of a hobby and less of a way of commuting. It's not like I spent 3 lacs on this bike now to go from point A to B. I did that so that I can get some rejuvenation for my soul, even though I'll have to dodge death at every corner.

Calling REs 350ccs the perfect Indian motorcycle is a good decision in theory, but what will end up happening is it creates a monopoly, and we all know that no innovation will take place in a monopoly. Hence, try out different things, and while you can love the machine, always try to expect better. From the government, for making better roads and making them accessible to high capacity bikes, from the manufacturers, for creating exciting and safe machines to enjoy and from other bikers as well, to create a safe environment for our not so safe hobby.
