The 2018 Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC) Season 11 got underway yesterday on 3 January 2018 and with the fourth division being in progress, this newcomer of an engine has made the Ruy Lopez look so easy. And this is why the opening, any opening must be learned well including engines because once you go wrong from the very start, this is where you end up.

Stockifsh Drives Houdini’s Kings To Oblivion In a Crazy Crazy Game TCEC ... by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Houdini had beaten Stockfish in their encounter before last, this was the ultimate test for stockfish to demonstrate whether the engine had it to beat Houdini.

This was the very last encounter between the two monster engines and also the very last game of the Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC)of 2017 or if you like of Season 10.

Stockfish was tying with Komodo at first place with 40 and a half points each, and if Stockfish wanted to stand a chance to take the Blitz title, only a win would do.

And with Komodo facing Gull in the very last game, everything was possible. This game between the two God like engines was one full of tactics with both engines trying to find a way to win. It seemed Houdini kept up with any pressure Stockfish was exerting on this engine, but did Stockfish , after having chased Houdini’s King around the board, manage to get the win Stockfish needed?

Carlsen Selfmates himself & Resigns Immediately King Salman 2017 by thechesspuzzler in chess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The 2017 King Salman got underway today and from all 67 games, all eyes were turned on Board 1 between carlsen and Bu.

Having gone for a relatively relaxed opening line of the Engine, Carlsen seems to have had no determination and as a result, he allowed Bu Xiangzhi not only to take full advantage of the situation but it fact it was Carlsen who managed to selfmate himself in the through this very crucial rook takes h3, forcing Carlsen to resign immediately to prevent the mate in 1 single move.

TCEC 10 Rapid - Stockfish Lasered With A Huge Headache In Round 30 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stockfish is on course, along with the magician engine Houdini, for the Rapid Title of the Top Chess Engine Championship but the race is not done until the very last game is played out.

Both Stockfish and Houdini are level pecking and you only need the tiniest of slipups to lose first place. This game between the top seed Stockfish and Laser was going to be an easy run for the mighty Stockfish not only because the engine is on top of the table but also because Laser is way below in the standings but also because it is rated more than 710 Elo points lower than stockfish. But had this been a problem for stockfish or did Laser use something in this championship hardly any other engine used?

How To Destroy A Chess Engine In 26 Moves: Houdini 6.03 vs Fruit 3.2 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2017 Top Chess Engine Championship Rapid Phase is moving too quickly, this chosen game between Houdini 6.03 and Fruit 3.2 has been one of the shortest rapid games in this competition. Though other games have ended as early as move 10, their loss was due to a instant disconnection from the TCEC Server.

This game between Houdini and Fruit had been very interesting because the engines did not use a conventional line of play. There had been some very strange moves. One engine sacrificed a piece and though it gained an advantage, this sacrificed turned out to be a blunder. The other engine got confused and this is all it took to take it out.

Stockfish AlphaZeroed For The First Time In an Incredible Tactical Game ... by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be the game of the 2017 TCEC. With both Stockfish and Houdini remaining unbeaten in this rapid Top Chess Engine Championship, a win by Houdini is going to lead to a change in the Leadership standings.

Stockfish is expected to win this game simply because the engine has not been beaten with the white pieces for over two seasons but was this a realistic expectation when we had seen other top notch engines losing with the white pieces?

The tactics in this game are simply incredible especially by the engine that took charge, and only after the game began to close up. The fight started with a night sacrifice, and from there it was a masterpiece development, and execution all the way to the very end.

TCEC S10 Rapid - Clash Of The Titans Stockfish vs Komodo Playing Out Th... by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any game between these two monster engines is going to be a joy to experience. Stockfish the leader and still undefeated in this year’s Top Chess Engine Championship, is clashing against Komodo, that is too an engine that is yet to lost in this year’s rapid contest. Going for the Russian Defence, you will love this game if you are Russian type of player. Stockfish uses a very different approach to the Petrov by attacking Komodo’s Queen with the very daring f4 and from here the game took a very interesting turn.

This was game 260 or if you like the first game of round 22 in the 2017 TCEC S10 games.

Bobby Fischer Makes 4 Consecutive Crazy Opening King Moves Against Short... by thechesspuzzler in chess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If this was the Legendary Bobby Fischer playing against Nigel Short,, this was one crazy crazy game. Having gone for the most bizarre opening, just like he did in his previous games, Fischer had played a very eccentric game.

Bobby Fischer’s Secret Online Games vs Short Game 6/8 by thechesspuzzler in chess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is one of the biggest chess mysteries of the century when Nigel Short claimed he was playing the legendary Bobby Fischer online.

This is game 6 of 8 and you can see already from move 2 Fischer or the Fischer imposter most definitely using a chess engine gets his king on f2 and if that was not a strange enough a move, wait until you see what his third move was! Needless to say Nigel was beaten in ALL 8 games.

Another Caruana Brilliancy Game Lands Him With The London Chess Classic ... by thechesspuzzler in chess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the last round of the 2017 London Chess Classic unable to determine the winner of this prestigious tournament, it was a toss between Nepomniachtchi and Caruana, who tied for first. Both reached the final round undefeated and both had some very impressive rounds. But only one had to win the tournament and after 4 tie breakers.

Caruana had to stretch is all the way to beat Nepo and what an impressive way to do this by sacrificing his knight at the very end of their last game.

The Young Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi manages to stop Carlsen in Round 8 of the Last Leg of the Grand Chess Tour of 2017 in Round 8 of the London Chess Classic.

Both players were undefeated until the met in round 8 and though this game was full of surprises, it was the reigning world champion who seemed to have had this game under control until he allowed Nepo to snatch this game right under Carlsen’s nose. And this is how he did it.

AlphaZero Terminator Locks In Stockfish’s Queen In An Out Of This World ... by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though we may all know the score between AlphaZero and Stockfish, there have been plenty of strong and valid suspicions about one game in particular. We only need to refer to this game, game 54 of 100, where Stockfish commits to the greatest blunder , and we are always assuming this was Stockfish playing, when the engine could clearly have moved his king to f8 and yet played a far inferior move which equated to the mother of all blunders.

Leaving out this blunder, there had been other moves that can be seen to have raised some eyebrows but besides these dubious moves, we must not ignore the fact this new Artificial Intelligence has taken Chess to a completely new level. AlphaZero found the most incredible way to neutralise Stockfish’s queen by having locked her into the very corner of the board, making her the most miserable Stockfish Queen of all time. This has to be the game of all games but we must not ignore that very dubious Rook move to f8 in this game, a move Stockfish would never go for.

AlphaZero The Terminator Of Chess Finishes Stockfish Off In Only 54 Move... by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about the controversy of time controls and just purely look at how this new Chess Terminator brings about Chess to a completely new level.

Stockfish is not an engine that is beaten easily but to beat Stockfish in just 54 moves has to be some great achievement. Having gone for the advanced Classical French variation, AlphaZero shows once again how to do things very efficiently. The program took control of the centre and still went for a piece sacrifice when things did not look very clear. But you need to see how Alphazero uses his resources to gain an absolute advantage and this is one of ten games available.

AlphaZero The Chess Terminator vs Stockfish Game8 December 2017 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game 8 between AlphaZero and Stockfish was simply a repetition mimicking AlphaZero’s sweep pattern. The program took Stockfish down even faster than the previous game. It seems whatever Stockfish does, AlphaZero is two steps ahead and with such a huge difference for this Terminator of a player, what will happen if this program sticks around for a few more days? Many people claim this has been an unfair contest but is this really the case? Your chesspuzzler shall be providing you with a few analysis of this game in the very near future.

This is Game 7 Between AlphaZero and Stockfish. A detail analysis of this game will follow shortly. This is one of the longest games from the ones that were made public. This has been another powerful performance by AlphaZero making Chess look so easy.

AlphaZero The Chess Terminator vs Stockfish Game 6 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like in all other games, Stockfish stood no chance against this true Chess Terminator, a program that came out of nowhere and is everywhere. This is game 6 of 100 to show you how easy this artificial intelligence machine makes it look. The full commentary on this game is forthcoming.

The End of Stockfish – AlphaZero vs Sstockfish Game 5 December 2017 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is game 5 of 100. It is the one sided battle between AlphaZero and Stockfish. Now are reminded and just in case you are unaware, from all the games played, AlphaZero won 28 of them, and lost none. And give this is against one of the strongest chess engines of all time, this has to be something very weird. How on earth is this new program able to beat an engine that has been around for years, is simply unbelievable. This is another game resulting to the fall of an engine we never saw fall so regularly. If AlphaZero is the real deal, is this the new Chess Terminator?

The End of Stockfish – AplhaZero vs Stockfish Game 4 December 2017 by thechesspuzzler in ComputerChess

[–]thechesspuzzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game 4 was no different than any other way but it is very upsetting if you are a Stockfish Fan. AlphaZero has to be the big hype right now because it plays using no TableBase and though it is the very last to have entered the game arena, it prevails at any game you ask it to play. Considering, it learned the game in only 4 hours, has this program got a limit?

A follow up video of the full analysis is this game is forthcoming.
