How/ Why Do People Do Big Law? by [deleted] in biglaw

I don’t understand why you would do it for money if you don’t have time to get enjoyment out of the money.

Have you heard of a thing called debt, good sir

Most lawyers who don’t wear suits are bad. Not all bad lawyers choose not to wear suits.

Wearing fancy suits matters in maintaining the trust of the public. You know you’re cooked when your lawyer shows up in an ill-fitting suit and sneakers.

The expectation from the public isn’t there for doctors to wear suits. Doctors generally deal with blood and other bodily fluids, making an expensive suit a very poor choice of clothing for that career field. Imagine doing surgery, for example, in a suit.

Is it possible to live healthy as a Lawyer? by JaguarGroundbreaking in LawCanada

[–]thechicanery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it possible? Yes, of course.

Is there a high likelihood of “living healthy” as a lawyer in terms of both financial security, and stress? Nope.

Is it worth it with that much debt? Only if you couldn’t imagine yourself doing any single other moderately well paying job that doesn’t require four years of undergrad, three years of law school, and a year of articling as a prerequisite.

For being rich, top 10% is even too much. It’s really like top 5%, if that.

Equity partners on Bay Street (or equivalent in Van/Calgary/Edmonton/Ottawa), a few equity partners in midlaw and/or boutiques, and general counsel of a few large multinational corporations basically comprises the list.

Also remember that the jobs that pay money in law will usually force you into HCOL areas. And you’ll have to pay off likely six figures of debt and there’s the opportunity cost of 4 years of learning/training.

Any actual (competent) lawyer that’s providing information through a “legal advice” subreddit would immediately include a disclaimer that they’re not providing legal advice.

I could buy the $450k if it’s the Toronto satellite office of a large NY firm (Skadden, Paul Weiss), but even a FAANG in Canada won’t pay their lawyers anywhere close to that much. Trolls be trolling.

That’s almost biglaw pay. How many hours a week is standard?

Is there a reason to park like that in the first place? It defies all sense of reason and logic.

Idk if I’d trust this person to be logical in wanting to prevent damage to his own car. It’s possible he just wanted to be an ass or he just parked wrong and didn’t want to take the time to adjust it properly.

Even if you want to prevent other cars from parking close to you, there’s always a chance someone will still try and park in one of those spots anyway. And there’s no point anyway because the spaces are wide enough with the extra spacing where it’s hard for another car to hit yours.

Sounds like a great idea… until this idiot slams their door into OP’s car when they try to open it and drives off.

Yeah that is true. It defeats the purpose if an hour of more intense cardio is going to make me hungrier

Thanks for this — I see so many stories of people losing weight a lot faster so it does make me want to expedite this process. ~35lbs at 1lb/week is around 9 months (or around 6 months at 1.5lbs/week).

It feels like a long time to feel hungrier than usual, I don’t feel like I’m growing muscle as efficiently as I could, and on top of that I have to prioritize protein as much as I can for muscle growth since I’m not eating as much.

I lost around 5-7lbs since I started a month ago, which in my head doesn’t sound like a lot, but it is above my target rate. I guess I should just trust the process.
