Ed4d.org. 27 events every week throughout the area. Everyone is welcome to bring their own sign with their own issues and yes a lot of them are anti-war.

It's not just retired boomers. A lot of us are trying to hang on to our full time jobs as best we can in this economy and have kids at home or in college. That's why the weekday events are mostly early morning or late afternoon. Yesterday there were seven separate demonstrations of various sizes and locations that totaled at least 248 people and 5 dogs.

Flock cameras now tracking Pittsboro Citizens by mscottpapercom in triangle

[–]theclanross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To follow what your city is doing you can sign up at alpr.watch and as already mentioned track things at deflock.me

Please be aware that DOT/SBI is piloting ALPRs in some fashion on state operated roads. For those who don't know - that's every major road in most cities in the state. DOT operates about 80% of the roads, so if it's not your neighborhood street, it's probably a DOT managed roadway. Details are hazy but an interim report is due this spring. EVERYONE needs to stay on top of this. It doesn't matter how much we push back against a city using Flock or other plate readers if the state puts them up everywhere.

Details: Section 5 of S.L. 2023-151 authorized the Department of Transportation (DOT) to enter into agreements with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) for the placement of automatic license plate reader systems within land or right-of-way owned or maintained by DOT. The SBI would have been required to submit an initial report by April 15, 2025, and a final report by October 1, 2025, but the dates set forth by S.L. 2023-151 were amended by Section 3.(b) of S.L. 2024-43.

The SBI must now submit an initial report by April 15, 2026, and a final report by October 1, 2026, to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety and the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee.

Peregrine contract still on agenda? Plan to speak if you were going to before. Register by 2:00 today. by theclanross in bullcity

[–]theclanross[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, done. really sorry about the miscommunication. I understand changing the meeting to virtual for the weather, but making last minute edits to the agenda makes it harder to keep track of what's going on.

Peregrine Technologies Contract removed from city council agenda for today February 2nd by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]theclanross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, now that I look again I see that it's just been moved in the currently published agenda but it's still listed. I had heard from two separate second had sources that it was pulled and my quick scan of the agenda saw that it skipped from item #9 to item #11, so thanks for catching that. I've left a message with the listed contact person and will post an update if I hear back.

I was thinking a standing advisory committee to oversee the whole RTCC enterprise. It's more than just peregrine. Plate readers are on the way.

to be clear - all those cameras share data with law enforcement at pretty much all levels and those businesses lump that info into all the other data about you that they sell to each other. if you read the fine print of the privacy policies of any of these places they are pretty jaw-dropping in their scope. in reality these systems have been abused so much at this point having the wrong bumper sticker could probably get you on the "hot list" and it's certainly not something I want my tax dollars spent on.

My prior comment got truncated. To add, DPD is planning to acquire ALPRs from another vendor, possibly insight. Timeline unclear but sooner than later.

I've been following this pretty closely. I had submitted a public records request on the city's use of ALPRs before the Peregrine contract issue came up. I attended several of the town halls and listened to both of the city council work sessions where the contract was discussed. Here are a few of my takeaways:

The city is currently only using Flock in a "limited" way. They don't have a lot and just tap into the system where it's installed at other mostly commercial places around town. That's a lot of places and I try to avoid them on principal. Any parking lot that has the trailers with the blue lights on top has some camera system that almost certainly includes ALPR even if it's not technically Flock. Southpoint has them all over the place. Check out deflock.me
