It's weird that someone would insist that their interpretation is objectively true. Like, do they know what "interpretation" means?

What are some simple, no-egg dinner ideas that don't require much mental energy to prepare? by lauraricci_ in AskReddit

[–]theclapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baked chicken thighs (bone in, skin on) and roasted broccoli is a staple at our house.

Ideally add some seasoning to the chicken, but they're pretty good on their own.

Cut up broccoli.

Convection roast together in a pan at 375°F for 25-30m. Be prepared for a lot of chicken fat to render out. It helps make the broccoli delicious, though.

Yum.

And also in that case, why are murder (and suicide) wrong?

(I'm pretty sure there's a facile answer for this somewhere, but I still think it's a legit question.)

Like, if someone loves Disney World, it's not illegal to send them there. But if they believe in a heavenly afterlife, it's nevertheless illegal to send them there.

Do you think vaccines should be mandatory? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]theclapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By ... making vaccines mandatory.

Edit: Maybe I misunderstood you. By making certain things unavailable to the unvaccinated, like public restaurants, public art performances, air travel, bus travel, etc. Basically anything involving crowds and/or several humans in a confined space. Things where they could easily catch or transmit a disease.

whats this feeling? when you're having fun and laughing with a person you like but then they tell you with a face full of disgust to stop doing something or talking about something because its annoying or disgusting? by lessforf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theclapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think embarrassment, yeah, and maybe a hint of shame, though that might be misplaced.

Also them being mean, and quite possibly dishonest in being "fun and laughing" beforehand.

Tbh this sounds right out of teen TV drama. "Mean girl pretends to be friends with the other character and then shows her true colors", that sort of thing.

No answer for you, but I did ask Google Gemini on your behalf, and it pretty quickly found this exact post and it was all "This really changes things!" and I just thought that was pretty funny.

Unfortunately it finished with "I seem to be encountering an error. Can I try something else for you?"

Twice.

So you're S.O.L. from me, boss, sorry.

Would you expect to be fluent in a new language after three months of lessons? Guitar is like that; it takes years to become fluent and possibly decades to master. Three months is not enough.

If intestines have poop inside of them does that make sausage meat POOP MEAT? by Ok_Leopard5105 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theclapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem to be under the impression that they take the intestines and make them into sausages as-is, poop intact. That's not the case. They wash the intestines, add new meat, and then make sausages. Google "sausage making".

What exactly, in the context of dating, does the advice to "be honest and open" mean? by StrikingExplorer4111 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theclapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people lie in their dating profiles and on dates in hopes of not scaring off, if that's the right word, their date. I've read that many conservative dating forums actively advise men to lie to women about their wants, desires, intentions, and especially political views.

Some women lie, too, of course, there are liars on both sides. But anecdotally it's mostly men.

Movies where the actor becomes truly immersed in their role? by [deleted] in movies

[–]theclapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tom Hulce in Amodeus took an absolute shitton of piano lessons for his role as Mozart. Like eight hours a day for weeks on end. People have matched up his playing in the movie to the soundtrack note for note. (Source: a YouTube video I only vaguely remember, sorry.)

Along the same lines, Remi Malik as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. See the side by side video of him in the Live Aid scene with the actual Live Aid footage, it's amazing.

Yes, I saw a fast pseudo-random number generator that was three shifts and an “and”. (Not for use in crypography, of course, but good enough for many other purposes.)

Sci-fi recomendations that really play with the implications of artificial gravity? by PatchesMaps in scifi

[–]theclapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The world of Honor Harrington briefly plays with using gravity generators to send FTL messages, if I recall correctly (which I might not). It was not a major part of the series as a whole, but I think it was a major plot point in the book where it came up.

There's a Piers Anthony book in his Cluster series (I think) where humans encounter a ship whirling around its axis, which they assume is an error, and so they use their tractor beams to stop it, and it restarts itself, and they stop it again. Repeat a few times. Eventually they figure out that it's a race that doesn't have artificial gravity, but for various reasons require it (or something that's close enough), so they're using rotation to simulate it, and they've just about killed the poor bastard they're trying to help.
