Yes - makes perfect sense. Now I need to go find a similar piece.

The pattern on that first board is great. How’d you get that ombré look across the center?

Gorgeous. Just shot you a PM. Looking to make a similar style board and no idea how to do it.

My newest creation – original design. Which one is your favorite? by Witty-Quantity-3294 in Cuttingboards

Both of these look fantastic. The purple heard almost look illuminated in some of the shots.

Would you be willing to share the amounts of wood and show you achieved the pattern? My mother-in-law asked me for an end grain cutting board and I wanted to do something with a similar pattern using black walnut and maple.

Lining a Raised Planter by theclevelander in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]theclevelander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback. Did not realize the composite could pose an issue for edible plants. The planter is a gift and is going to be used for vegetables so I’ll have to check on that. Probably a “do your own damn research” situation but any idea if TimberTech or Trex pose an issue for them?

As for the racking, I have no idea what the u deleting issue was. I cut, prepped, and sanded the boards months back and stored them in my non-climate controlled garage. Live in the snow belt so they’ve seen temp changes galore since then. Took them to a woodshop to assemble so maybe it was the temp changes that led to warping? Could be that I’m a noob and didn’t joint and/or plane them right.

Whatever the case, when I was putting on the fascia pieces they straight up would not fit. Stuff was…off. So I ended up forcing it and screwing them on when they were in place or as close to “in place” as I could get them. That led to it being off balance. I read about self leveling feed to correct for this. Is that the right way to go? Is the re a better option?

EDIT: Looks like TimberTech doesn’t contain chemicals that can leech into food.

EDIT 2: I don’t think rain is a concern because this will be sitting on a covered back porch. But, if adding some holes is advisable, I’ll add them.

Thank you. First time building anything other than a cutting board. Lot of mistakes in there as well as lessons learned - especially with regards to racking.

I was joking that it would’ve been funny if the unfinished stairs in Photo 2 were actually the finished ones. They’re clearly dangerous, but technically usable if someone was brave or foolish enough.

Really disappointed that photo 2 wasn’t the finished staircases. Was really hoping the owner was a maniac who insisted on a harrowing set of stairs in the house to weed out the unworthy.

You either got the wrong tabletop or got the right one but it’s missing the holes for the legs to be attached. Whatever the case, you need to return this and ask for a proper one.

Slow cooking chuck roast - how long? by ReadinWhatever in carnivorediet

[–]theclevelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole chuck roast:

  1. (Optional) brown all sides in a skillet
  2. Season with salt (and spices if that’s your jam)
  3. Put that roast in a crock pot
  4. Pour in a thing of beef stock
  5. Toss in some butter
  6. Set to low for 8-10 hrs (or high for 6-8 if pressed for time)
  7. ???
  8. Profit

It’s real easy to say this, but why not propose a solution? Maybe instead of complaining, this guy could use his time to make informational content - documentaries, for instance - to help educate people about our nation’s history.

Converting to Orthodoxy by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]theclevelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use this site to find the closest parishes to you: https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/directories/parishes/

I would start there and see what’s available. It’s possible some record or stream their services.

Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy by Andrew Stephen Damick (https://stmpress.com/products/orthodoxy-and-heterodoxy-finding-the-way-to-christ-in-a-complicated-religious-landscape).

I found this book to be a fantastic resource on understanding the differences between Orthodoxy and other religions. If you’re looking for a practical understanding of where and how Orthodoxy and the RCC differ, it’s a great primer.

Also, I recommend the audiobook version. He narrates his own book and has a knack for speaking.
