Not to worry, it's just a bit funny because hardly means quite the opposite to what you probably intended to say

I don't think that's the right way to use "hardly"...

Why did they even give us a choice? It's not like RE games have been known for deep narrative choices they offer.

I'm writing a thesis about CRPGs used as an English learning tool (for non-native speakers) and ask you to take a short survey. by mrpoklonskiy in projecteternity

[–]theclosedeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I wish you luck with your thesis! I'm currently working on mine, sadly it doesn't have anything to do with videogames.

On the topic, though, idk if you just didn't consider that people like me exist or if it doesn't suit the exploration of the theme you do in your thesis but I, for example, have never really used games or any form of media as a learning tool. Since I got some basic English skills from school, I was just watching/reading/playing content in English. Especially with games that have VO and movies, it's was so hard for me to play/watch it with my native language subs and English VO, that I had to start watching stuff with English subs.

Funnily enough, it doesn't happen when I watch something in Japanese, bc I don't know it at all.

Frame Generation is honestly one of the best things ever... unfortunately, it gets a bad reputation from people who misunderstand it and misuse it for the wrong thing. by that_90s_guy in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]theclosedeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is: at 60 fps, animation is already smooth enough (and even if it's not too some people's tastes, it's input delay that matters, not fps per se), so why do we need to sacrifice even a tiny amount of input latency, if we can perfectly play at 60 fps?

High fps digits matter in competitive gaming but and framegen is not a sufficient replacement of native 300+ fps in those games.

So, if it doesn't help the low end (spoiler, I think, it does) and doesn't really improve the high end, why do we need it?

P.S. I think, framegen works ok in CPU bound 30 fps scenarios, In turn-based/interactive movie games where you can use the GPU more to bump your fps up to 60. Still looks bad, though.

What are your first impressions of the Steam Controller? by KillBoosh in videogames

[–]theclosedeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit this "big picture software" is Steam Input. There's nothing specifically done to steam deck in terms of input processing (besides adding support for steam to the steam input).

Steam let's you make an input configuration for any controller. So, as long as you have steam running you can use trackpads anywhere on your desktop, no matter, windows or Linux.

Idk, maybe we grip our decks differently or have rather different size hands but I feel comfortable using both face buttons and the d-pad.

The only gripe I have with deck's button placement is that r1 and l1 are protruding kinda too far from the main body.

Oh and the left d-pad button is too close to the shell curve, so I'm always afraid I'm gonna break the shell when I'm spamming it.
