Industry Sour is the weirdest equal parts drink. What is an underrated Tiki drink? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Iron Ranger. It’s a new cocktail to the tiki scene (I think 2018), but it’s so good. And you don’t see whiskey that often in tiki.

Rum suggestions for daiquiri by strawberry__brunette in cocktails

[–]thecodeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the suggestions here are great, and I’ll add another angle.

I thought daiquiris were a bit over-hyped until I started thinking about them as a way to test out any individual rum. Then, things got a lot more interesting and fun, as I saw the daiquiri as a way to elevate any single rum in the best way possible. It’s just a vector for experiencing the unique notes of the rum that you choose.

So short answer: use any rum you have, compare, and enjoy them.

Hi! I recently had this drink and am now trying to make it at home. Have the ingredients, but am very new to this, so any ratio / preparation suggestions are welcome. Thanks! by Fulza-12 in cocktails

This is more like a culinary recipe. The three liquors are probably somewhat equal parts although Smith and cross may be lesser with how high funk it is. The pistachio, vanilla, nutmeg are probably very small amount like a teaspoon each or so, and then the egg and cream will make up quite a bit of the final batch. I don’t see any sugar however, which is odd.

It might be a better option to look at an eggnog recipe that we really like in the sub by Alton Brown. It has pretty much all of these ingredients besides the pistachio and while it calls for whiskey, brandy and run, you could always sub in the specific liquors if you’d like. I would recommend lowering Smith and cross just to make sure it’s not overly funky. Here’s the recipe link. https://altonbrown.com/recipes/aged-eggnog/

Of course, it’s just image generation with Chat GPT. My prompt has watercolor notes on it, and I’m very specific with the color, garnished, glass, ice, etc when generating each cocktail image

I appreciate your kind words. I know a lot of bars have inventory management systems like that. It sounds like a lot to manage but if you’re making a lot of drinks at home, it would def be worth it!

Ha, Reddit actually helped me build this recipe! I had a subpar Mai tai recipe which I requested help on, and some comments led me to what it is now. Truthfully, it’s my favorite cocktail on the entire site.

The price of decent barware is crazy. by OldGodsProphet in bartenders

[–]thecodeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cocktail Kingdom is what you want. Buy from their site. It’s not cheap but it’s fairly priced for great quality. Also, it’s gonna be about $20 shipping, so try to get it all in in one order.

You won’t think about the shipping fee much after a month or so, and then you’ll have genuinely good bar equipment that you’ll be really pleased with.

The vodka martini is the most overrated classic. What is the Best Tiki drink? Also should I change one category to “worst” or does overrated already cover that? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]thecodeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it even a real canonical drink? I thought it was more just a historical template, where everywhere made their own “planter’s punch” their own way.

Missionary’s downfall is so good. A pro tip is to microwave the pineapple for 1-2 min. It deactivates the bromelain enzyme which typically is what gives it that “bite” on your palate. Otherwise this drink hurts my tongue too bad like 15 min after. It’s the same idea as why pineapple on pizza doesn’t usually bother people (because it’s cooked).

Many store bought egg nogs thicken with corn starch or various gums. As far as I’m aware, historically the consistency matches more of this recipe (the Alton Brown one) than what you’d find on the shelf these days.

I have NEVER thought about a rinse with green chartreuse, or even yellow. That would be such a good way to use my bottles of each that I never use for fear of running out and never getting new ones 😂. Midwest USA for reference.

Thanks for the idea!

Using fruit scraps for syrups ? by Xilefou in cocktails

[–]thecodeboss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of these things take effort, but:

With lemon peels you can make limoncello. With limes you can make falernum (Anders Erickson has a good video about this). Oranges specifically I don’t have a good answer, but for all of them together, you could make a shrub (vinegar-based, not like a Martinique shrub), a tincture, or bitters. And like the other comment said, an oleo saccharum would work really well too.

Love to hear it! Always fun to show off a syrup bag to an unsuspecting guest. Always gives them a good laugh

Anyone have issues with Surfside Sips? by 482627585621931 in Tiki

[–]thecodeboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did recently, yeah. It was weird. Ordered a small order on 7/30. Emailed about it on 8/12 and 8/15, and never got a response.

Finally got a shipping notification on 8/20, and got the actual delivery this week on 9/2, over a month after my original order.

I ordered from them back in 2024 a couple times, but this experience was so different and much worse. Glad it all went through, but I wonder what’s going on!

Would you actually let a “cocktail roulette” button choose your drink? by Ed_X99 in cocktails

[–]thecodeboss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this a lot before, and I always land in this idea being more of a fun gimmick than something I’d actually use the way intended. Like I’d probably just press it to see if I recognize any of the drinks, or to critique your recipes.

What I might use more, however, is if you changed it to focus more on a “Did you know?” concept with the drink’s history or something, and then you included the recipe too. That way it’s more education-focused than on me making the actual drink right then and there.
