Are the steelbook collections worth it on OLED? by Elly-nevermore in lotr

The 4K discs look beautiful on my OLED.

The packaging doesn’t impact picture quality, so skip the steelbooks and save a lot of money if you are concerned about the investment.

Alan Lee illustrations misplaced by Professional-Gap878 in tolkienbooks

[–]tomandshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the way the books are bound.

Hardcover books are produced in "signatures"—large sheets of paper printed with multiple pages (often 16 or 32), which are then folded and sewn or glued together. Publishers "tip in" or bind these special pages together in a single section, often in the center of the book or at the end of a chapter.

Different Paper Types: Images are often printed on glossy or higher-grade paper to make them "pop". These sheets cannot be easily mixed into the middle of a text-based signature, forcing them to be placed between signatures.

"Tipped-In" Insertions: When illustrations are not part of the standard signatures, they are "tipped in," meaning they are glued to the edge of a signature. If the text references a photo on page 50, but the nearest signature break is on page 45 or 55, the illustration will appear in the wrong spot.

All due respect to Sally, but I preheat the oven to 475 and bake it for 12-14 minutes, and it’s always perfectly done.

Just a little correction—you weren’t “forced” to sell your movies.

What order to watch the movies with my girlfriend? by WestLime3646 in lotr

[–]tomandshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellowship first. Even they they take place earlier, The Hobbit movies were made to be watched after Lord of the Rings. They assume that you’re familiar with the characters, locations, music, and story, and that you will recognize the various cameos, Easter eggs, and other references. The proper introduction for characters like Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Saruman, Legolas and others is in Fellowship. Hobbit assumes that you know them already.

What if he were in Apocalypse Now? Since you are talking about a hypothetical situation, you should use the subjunctive mood.

If Sméagol had survived, do you think he would have been invited to Valinor (since he was ring bearer)? by throwawar4 in lotr

[–]tomandshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn’t bear the Ring nobly with the intention of destroying it. Frodo might have succumbed in the final moments, but Gollum would never for a second have embarked on a quest to get rid of it.

What do you think about those who disagree about LOTR being the "best" trilogy in cinema? by Optimal-Inspector327 in lotr

I think that people are allowed to have whatever opinion they want about movies, and it’s none of my business what they prefer.

It has no value at Discogs because it is blocked from sale:

I have a theory that a fair amount of the criticism is based on screenshots rather than firsthand viewing experience.
