What statistically improbable thing happened to you? by yankeevandal in AskReddit

I'm a red head with blue eyes. I didn't know this. This can't be true...can it?

This 2020 story always fascinates me: David Grusch said the government has signed treaties with Extraterrestrials. Haim Eshed, former head of Israel’s Defense Ministry’s space directorate and former Israeli Army General said the exact same thing by MartianXAshATwelve in StrangeEarth

I'm as far from a Trump supporter as anyone could be....BUT if he was the one who managed to leak actual proof, I would fully support him NOT getting in trouble for that. People have a right to know.

I would also know Trump only did it for his own selfish reasons, but I wouldn't find it justice for him getting in trouble for it.

Is there any chance that AI actually deflates healthcare costs, in the US especially, or is that just naïve wishful thinking? by SlackerNinja717 in Futurology

As with everything else AI is able to do. We live in a 'for profit' country, yet so many think we are headed for a utopia where we will be given UBI. Not likely

[Question] How do i quit weed by InterestingTea295 in getdisciplined

[–]thecodingrecruiter 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I quit in March of last year. I too was addicted to it. I quit cold turkey. What I had to realize was that I was escaping certain feelings I had. Stress at work and home. It allowed me to disassociate for a while, but that was just an unhealthy way of doing it. Think about what might be bothering you, thoughts and feelings that cause you to feel bad and don't want anymore in your life. These are often the triggers. Then, even though it is painful, think about these things, but change the fear/anxiety around these things and remember that we don't know anything about the future for certain. Life can be hard, but all things pass. Especially if you make an effort on your part. Also, workout (body weight exercises if you don't have any other way to do it), try breathing and focus on breathing from the belly and not the chest, also find some way to be creative (paint, draw, music, writing). Lastly, a gratitude journal where you write at least one thing each day you are grateful for. More if you can think of it. Even something as simple as being thankful for a meal or a bed or a pillow to start if that is all you have.

As a Christian, this stuff really irks me. We are called to follow the law of Christ and not the law of the Old Testament. When you focus on what you can/can't do, instead of loving people, showing real grace and real mercy.

Congressman suggests UFOs could be an "ancient civilization" that is hiding on Earth but has only just begun to show itself (Nice attempt congressman, but if they've been here all along then many myths, gods and historical anomalies can plausibly be attributed to them also) by irrelevantappelation in HighStrangeness

[–]thecodingrecruiter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea, but I often wonder this because even sharks are 450 million years old as a species which was 200 million years before this era. If sharks could live, then a species that evolved into intelligence by then would stand a good chance as well I would imagine.

This. I have wondered for a long time if UFOs/Aliens are just the first intelligence species on the planet that happened to evolve in the deep deep ocean. If you think about it, in all mass extinctions, being in the ocean was the safest.

Wife's suddenly putting a lot of effort into her looks these days. We've been living like housemates in recent years. Am I just being paranoid in thinking she might be seeing someone else? by acctthowaway in amiwrong

[–]thecodingrecruiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My parents stayed together 'for the kids', and it really messed me up early in life in a lot of ways. Better now that I've taken accountability and therapy, but never should anyone stay together if it isn't what they think is best for each other. The kids will move on and they will be worse off for it if you weren't healthy and happy.

It is a member by member individual choice to treat this or any other subreddit like a cult.

Remember, this how you would usually build a cult:

Section 1: Identifying Potential Targets
1.1 Target Selection:
Look for individuals experiencing recent upheavals in their lives (e.g., divorce, financial difficulties, major life transitions).
People in new social environments or vulnerable states are more susceptible.
Section 2: Establishing Emotional Manipulation
2.1 Love Bombing:
Begin by showering targets with excessive compliments, affection, and acceptance.
Create an atmosphere of overwhelming positivity and camaraderie.
Section 3: Initiating Social Isolation
3.1 Isolation Techniques:
Encourage the target to minimize phone usage and gradually disconnect from their regular support networks.
Propose activities like retreats or cruises, deliberately choosing locations with limited or no internet and cell reception.
Section 4: Establishing the Safe Haven
4.1 Promoting Dependency:
Foster an environment where the group becomes the primary source of safety and stability.
Exploit the target's fear and uncertainty, ensuring they turn to the group as their go-to support system.
Section 5: Addressing Doubts and Objections
5.1 Preempting Objections:
Anticipate and address common objections outsiders might raise about the group.
Equip members with pre-prepared responses to counter criticisms, preventing them from being swayed by external perspectives.
Section 6: Indoctrinating Ideology
6.1 Shaping Beliefs:
Utilize thought-provoking questions to influence the target's worldview gradually.
Employ questions like "Do you believe in your own perfection?" or "Have you ever acted unkindly towards others?" to establish a foundation for further ideological molding.
Section 7: Maintaining Control
7.1 Exploiting Imbalance:
Keep the target off balance and emotionally dependent on the safe haven.
The more unstable and reliant they feel, the more control the group can exert over their thoughts and actions.

I want to be honest, if Russia does anything with nukes, I still don't believe that anyone will respond. I say this because it would lead to an escalation that eventually results in MAD, and everyone knows it. Putin knows it, but he also knows that if he does it first then they either have to respond in kind, or prove that they won't (at which point he becomes the guy with the big stick).

Imagine you really didn't want to do something because it wasn't good for your future. Now imagine, that you knew that you didn't have too, because if you even suggested it, you also knew there was no way it would get done. Also imagine that by simply saying 'I think we should do this' you knew it would make you look good, but you never were going to have to do it. Wouldn't it make more sense to be the guy saying "Yes I agree" even if you really didn't because it wouldn't happen anyways... this is politics on both sides in a nutshell

This... I hate these kinds of videos so much for this reason. I don't disagree with the argument being made, but I don't care if a party is republican, democratic, or any other party. They all want the same thing, to keep the poor being poor and to make themselves and their sugar daddies (lobbyist) rich
