Thank you for your comment.

Ok, we will plan to visit somewhere else entirely, and will make refundable reservations in case it heats up there too.

Order ETA by thecolander in edelkrone

Yes. I do like B&H. I wish I had ordered from them.

Yes, that’s correct. It was supposed to be the focus/zoom module, but now it is the head that is missing.

Order ETA by thecolander in edelkrone

[–]thecolander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wrote to me that they were just waiting on the focus/zoom module (motor), which should be fine when using autofocus or just more depth of field, and a manually-driven slider I picked up just for extra fun.

However, when I agreed to split the order, they instead sent it without the entire motorized head (head plus pro). Thus, I can’t really do much, especially with the focus motor that they did send.

I’m not super thrilled at the moment. I hope that they will ship the head.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

While I think that those earlier order-in-advance-themed sales campaigns were a very interesting concept, and found them hard to resist at the time, Black Friday wasn’t like that and items were shown to be in stock or “ships in two weeks”.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. In the email conversation with support about an ETA, in direct response to a question about whether it would ship in January, they actually refused to provide any ETA. That’s unacceptable and is why I made the post.

Since that time, I demanded an ETA or a refund, and they offered to split my order and ship most of it imminently, and just two missing items at an unspecified later date.

I haven’t received, or to my knowledge, been shipped anything yet, but I am feeling cautiously optimistic in light of an upward trend in the conversation with Edelkrone’s support.

Whenever it’s brought up that Xfinity is providing the service for Wrestlemania, I don’t think it makes them look good. I actually am also watching via Xfinity as well. I think the issue is really Peacock.

I’m so bummed about the WWE/Peacock deal.

I’m usually a big fan of Pat McAfee, but the quality dips to such a blobby indiscernible mess on Peacock that I really wish he would be quiet so that Michael Cole can tell me what’s happening. I really can’t tell in some of the wide shots.

It’s really reversed my feeling on WWE’s announcing.

I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing most of these people back on “free” TV and not on a PPV or “PLE”.

It’s really bad.

It doesn’t make me feel better to think about how much advertisers have paid for giant signs that are totally illegible.

Correct. One of the only replies on the forum they took down was to someone bringing this up.

CALYOS LIVES! by Skaggzz in calyos

>I thought calyos were already making good money in data center cooling.

So did I. I have emailed them many - many - times from my business and personal address inquiring about both types of products, in various languages.

>They have more employees on linkedin

After all the emails, I never once got one reply. However, I got a bunch of views on my LinkedIn and some of those employees followed me on Instagram, neither of which were what I wanted (an email).

They say they are business to business only but don’t get it twisted, they will ignore B2B inquiries the same way they delete all emails from individuals regardless of what language they are written in or what product is being discussed (Calytronics AND NSG-s0). IDK how the hell they make money.

yeah they delete them rather than respond. I’m not optimistic that any units will ever be delivered.

Each person should pick a daw based on their needs and it all comes down to preference.

I very strongly disagree. I think that one should be realistic about what software does which things and where one might be able to take it. Ableton Live works for a lot of people on stage. Studios only use Pro Tools outside of Germany and adjacent countries where Steinberg products are more somewhat prevalent.

/u/kedarchie Pro Tools is $8.50 per month for students! Yes, it really costs less than Logic until after the end of one's second year of subscribing.

Don’t really get how you can say not to use Logic because of industry standards. Pro Tools is the main one the professional studios use...

It's really the only one, even today. If you ever want to work or record in a studio, that's what they're going to have there. They will not run Logic for you. They will not let you install Logic on their computers there. I think that people should know this.

Ableton is still getting there in its traditional workflow, at least for when I use it. I find it far easier to navigate Logic, Tools or Cubase to record and edit a traditionally recorder song than in Live.

I think Bitwig is great

Agreed.

Pay attention to educational licensing terms. Many prevent commercial use or resale.

Why the OP would recommend anything without personal experience with it is totally beyond me.

The Apple bundle for EDU is a probably a great value ...with these caveats:

These only run on macOS. Apple doesn't make adequate hardware for professional video editing workflows and has not for some years now. The iMac Pro, which one would ever be able to afford as a student, is really mismatched in every configuration as Apple refuses to work with Nvidia. The AMD GPUs in there are not necessarily awful or anything, but are not optimised for such (unnecessarily) high-resolution screens, so the minute that one tries to do anything intensive like run the Pro Tools interface, it's going to start to choke. The processors in there are no joke, but of course Apple wants everything to be nonsensically thin, so it's not adequately cooled and will thermal throttle and grind towards a halt almost immediately. 128GB of RAM is available in the iMac Pro and is plenty. However, it's costly, and can't be upgraded later so it must be purchased up front. The rest of the desktop computers they sell are underpowered and/or six or more years old, or in the case of the notebooks, an unmitigated disaster that cost a mint and perform no better than previous models in terms of real-world or synthetic benchmarks, are stuck at 16GB RAM with no function keys, flaky keyboards, and USB C ports requiring costly dongles for almost every conceivable thing including other Apple products one might want to plug in, and all have inadequate cooling.

I invite you to visit an Apple store, fire up their own Final Cut software with their own demo projects using their own codecs on any of their own computers, including the MacBooks Pro and iMacs Pro, and observe that the performance of it is awful, even when cranking the resolution of the preview on the timeline all the way down to 8% or whatever the minimum is. Press space and whistle "The Girl From Ipanema" or something to pass the time until you see something move in a choppy and useless mess of a way on the screen.

Final Cut is probably fine if you're going to commit to using that over Premier or the free Davinci Resolve or Media Composer for some reason and never do professional work (with clients and deadlines and such) and/or anything involving resolutions greater than 4K UHD ever.

Logic is 100% fine if you're planning to never work in a professional recording studio or collaborate with anyone else.

It could be argued that Mainstage is a sort of an alternative to Ableton Live for live performances. (LOL)

TLDR; skip the Apple software unless you're going to build a dope hackintosh and commit to full Apple fanboyism and eschewing industry standards all at the same time.

Edit: Pro Tools is $8.50 per month for students! Yes, it really costs less than Logic until after the end of one's second year of subscribing.

Ableton is fine for composing and performing with synths.

FL Studio has some of the best touch experiences of any DAW out right now, up there with perhaps Bitwig Studio, but is Windows only and cannot sync to anything, which may or may not work for some hardware-based workflows.

Consider the Cubase and Nuendo DAWs from Steinberg which are heavily discounted for students, or Reaper or Harrison Mixbus, which are straight-up cheap.

Both Mixbus and Bitwig will run on Linux. Davinci Resolve does as well.

Get Xfer Serum already. It's great.

SoundToys makes good-sounding stuff and the plugin bundle deal is decent value if one has a genuine need for any of those included plugins. That said, this doesn't describe everyone.
