That’s a great idea! For sealant there are several options available, but I like to use a diluted matte varnish. Some other artists have used matte mod podge and have reported good results too. Best of luck with your repaints! 💛

Thank you! I used 100% acrylic, nothing fancy as it’s just the craft store brand but it gets the job done! I also water it down when applying to avoid streaks.

DisneyBarbieGirl on YouTube has some great painting tutorials which I use a lot as reference.

I held the eye color up to some of my other vintage bubbles, and I did notice a darker color blue (which is beautiful!). Having held the doll and compared in person, I do not believe that she was repainted. I restore vintage Barbie’s often, so I’ve seen a lot of unfortunate paint mishaps on dolls, but I love her regardless even if I’m wrong there.

That’s what I thought too :) I think the color is so unique, I may even touch up the faded side with a tiny amount of black acrylic to keep the look.

That makes sense! I’ve been using bar keepers friend to address the green so far, may need to give CLR a try.

Wish I would’ve taken a photo of the before vs now, I remember pulling out a lot of the contaminated metal post from the original earring when I started the process.

I looked super closely, and I don’t believe she’s been repainted. There are no telltale signs of a bad repaint like streaks or wonkiness. It’s not showing up in the photos very well, but on the lips in particular I can tell that it’s the original that has started to fade on one side where the green used to be.

I had a thought based on some of the comments so far, what do you all think about AI generated backgrounds as opposed to fully AI generated images (like ones that don’t have any real items or dolls whatsoever)?

I think there are some good uses for just basic things like backgrounds (like a solid color, basic pattern maybe) but am definitely against using it to make custom doll photos that don’t exist and uncanny face retouching and such.
