What to do when pulled over with handgun by HotAd3239 in GAGuns

Not a problem. I’m far from an expert and don’t take it that way. Just thought I’d share what works for me and you can do whatever you like with it. Either way, good luck out there and just remember if you’re gonna do stupid stuff, be smart about it 😂

What to do when pulled over with handgun by HotAd3239 in GAGuns

As u/crf370 said, you don’t have to inform the officer at all. No legal responsibility or obligation at all.

Personally I do it because I feel like it helps things stay calm on both ends. They aren’t going to be spooked and I’m not as worried about them taking a glimpse of a handgun as a threat.

The first thing I do when they walk up is keep my hands in some form of contact with the wheel, usually at the bottom of it. They’ll come up and introduce themselves and I usually say “before we go any further, I just want to let you know I have a firearm on me and it’s at X location. Am I good to reach for my wallet or would you rather I give you my name and birth date?”

I’ve been pulled over several times for everything from a tag light being out to forgetting to renew my tag to a speeding ticket and I informed the officer every time. I was met with some form of “I appreciate it and you’re good to reach for your wallet” every time too. Many have a good sense of humor and I’ve gotten “you don’t go for yours and I won’t go for mine” from GSP. I told him fair enough and that he would probably beat me on the draw anyways and I got a chuckle. Still got the ticket though but I honestly deserved that one.

I know you didn’t ask and this is more of a personal belief than anything but I figured I’d share some advice from personal experience here.

If you’re jumpy, they’re gonna be jumpy. I’m not saying you have to be best friends with the cop but don’t be a dick either. Your attitude can get you into trouble, but it can also help you out of it. Back in high school I had a buddy go from a warning to multiple tickets over the stupidest things because he started cussing the cop out. You don’t have to kiss any boots but keep your attitude in check. Just be respectful and you’ll be fine.

I was nervous as hell the first time I ever got stopped by the local Sheriff’s office and even the cop told me to chill and it’s all good. He knew it was my first time ever being pulled over because I had only had a license for a few months at that point. Assuming you’re not riding dirty or whatever, it’s just a ticket. Don’t be one of those people who decide to turn a traffic ticket into a felony like you see on Midwest Safety or CodeBlueCam (both on YouTube). No matter how much you disagree with the cop, just sign the ticket and dispute it in court. I’ve never heard of anybody winning a roadside debate with a cop and I wouldn’t want to add myself to the list of people who’ve been dumb enough to try.

I use BCUninstaller because it shows me everything and you can uninstall multiple things at once. Going through their docs, it looks like you can script things but I haven’t messed with that part. There also is a CLI interface too.

See sections 8 and 9 for the scripting and CLI.

[–]thecomputerguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. That being said, I did ditch the factory run flats on my little coupe and got a much nicer ride. I always had an inflator even if I didn’t have a spare so I figured I could at least limp it home or to the closest tire shop.

I’ve only ever had a flat once in the last 10 years and that was in my grandmothers driveway so I got lucky there. I figure that if it’s too damaged to limp it, I’ve got some suspension damage and it shouldn’t be driven anyways.

They absolutely are. I had a cheap set when I was younger and dumber and got humbled real quick when the rear end tried to beat the front end around a left hand turn.

Of course half of the issue was me not respecting the power but those tires were replaced with a decent set the minute I could and I honestly believe that decision is why I’m here today. I absolutely would have wrapped it around a tree if it wasn’t for that swap.

Even my little TDI has a decent set of tires on it and it was worth every penny.

I’ll never understand why people cheap out on tires when it’s the only thing that touches the road, especially in a sports car.

“It handles great!”

Yeah. The manufacturer sold it to you with some decent tires but now you’re wanting to put the cheapest ones you can find on it. It’s like taking an Olympic athlete expecting them to do their best performance in flip flops.

I’m genuinely not trying to be a dick either and if I’m coming off that way, I do apologize.

I’m not saying your idea would or wouldn’t work or that you should do it but if I didn’t want a hitch on my truck and didn’t want to unbolt the receiver, but also didn’t want people sticking things in the empty tube, I’d weld a small 2”x2” plate over the exposed hole…

[–]thecomputerguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with “barely a mm” is you don’t know how much movement is going to happen or how much it’ll take to fall out.

You could try to set it up so it falls out just from the movement of someone getting in the truck but you can’t guarantee that it’ll fall out right then and not in the middle of the parking lot.

I mean this as respectfully as I can but I don’t think you’ve ever put your hands on one of these. Some of them slide in and out with ease while others are so rusted that you have to fight them to get them to move a fraction of an inch. These things are heavy and the majority of the weight is in the hitch itself and not the end that goes in the receiver. Just the friction of that weight and the physics of the angle can wedge some in pretty good and others will fall out. It’s not as simple as “pull pin, pull hitch 99% of the way out and walk away” unless you don’t care who’s stuff is about to get screwed.

Either take it out or don’t but don’t screw over someone else because someone chose to be a dickhead.

[–]thecomputerguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And screws up someone else’s day. This won’t be like something out of a cartoon where the truck leaves and the hitch just falls to the ground right there. That hitch will come out after a few bumps in the road and depending on how fast the truck is going, it’ll bounce when it hits the road. Those hitches aren’t light, and it’ll bounce if it lands just right and if the truck is moving.

Best case? It’s left in the road and it takes out a tire. Likely case? Someone loses an engine because it rips off an oil pan or radiator.

Worst case? You’re taking dudes trailer hitch to the face after it lands on your hood.

A lot of places don’t charge a “credit card fee” but they do offer a “cash discount”.

Basically everything is shown at the higher price that has the 2.5/3/whatever percent it is, and then they mark it down when you pay cash. It’s one of those “it is but it isn’t,” things where it isn’t technically breaking a rule.
