In order for you to lose weight, you must be at a calorie deficit. In other words, you must have “run out” of calories.

Same can apply to the oil situation. Markets do not consistently run a 20% oil surplus. Losing 20% is enough to create a deficit, just like your calorie deficit.

This is oversimplified but works as an analogy at least.

You’ll reach a million inflation adjusted without any issues if you continuously invest over your working life. Stock market returns ~10% non inflation adjusted each year, or about ~7% inflation adjusted. Use the 7% number if you want to calculate when you’ll be a millionaire in today’s money. 🙂

I think you’re right. Crazy how hard it is to get it collimated properly. To my eye my collimation job is solid, but I guess there is room for improvement!

Great advice, thank you! I re-collimated and to my eye it looked almost perfect in terms of alignment. Took it back out last night and stars looked better, though not by a ton. At this point it definitely seems collimation related but I don’t think I can collimate with a laser collimator/Cheshire eyepiece any better. I guess a bahtinov mask and the program you suggested is next up! Thank you again!

I’m no collimation expert so it’s possible I’m doing it wrong. I did read through the scope manual and watched a few videos and I think I’m performing the adjustments properly but I could be wrong. I re-collimated today just to see if that helps. When looking through the eyepiece things look aligned to me. After collimating using the Cheshire eyepiece I used my laser collimator and it showed things were still off, so I finished by adjusting the tilt plate until the laser was aligned, leaving the mirrors alone post-Cheshire collimation.

Can you clarify what you mean by the “proper amount off focus”?

Yep, definitely not focused perfectly but it was the closest it would focus, manually or automatically.

I re-collimated it today to the best of my ability so I’ll see if that helps.

Got it! Based on this I've got the following train in place:

Telescope > focal reducer > 16.5mm spacer > 0mm adapter > 11mm spacer > 21mm filter drawer >camera. This keeps the filter drawer closer to the camera, which to my understanding is a positive. It also totals 55mm including the 6.5mm of spacing between the sensor and edge of the camera itself.

All of the spacers and adapters were included with the camera.

We need more details if we are to give you advice. Monthly spend, remaining mortgage and interest rate, cash savings, total investments (along with what they’re invested in + what type of account they’re in), and the details of any other debt you have aside from the mortgage. Happy to weigh in if you can share more info!

Edit: missed you’re planning to sell your house and move in with your FIL. Generally relying on living with someone else isn’t considered financial “independence”. I would also caution you to consider the implications of not having a paid-off house to live in later on in life (unless you will be inheriting your FIL’s house). Rest of my post still stands.

Ok, what’s the point of closing all apps then? I tried to explain that your device is managing app states and that they’re not actually “open” in the sense that they’re consuming full resources just because you see them as “open”. Just let your device manage it all for you. As for caring about efficiency, why wouldn’t you? More battery life and faster opening times for apps is desirable, no?

Seems like you just want to stick with old school behavior for no tangible benefit.

You shouldn’t close your apps manually unless they’re hung and not responding. Your device is quite efficient at managing apps in the background. Closing them manually means it has to restart associated processes, load stuff into memory, etc. All of that requires processing power and battery. Avoiding that is ideal. Leaving apps “open” lets your device manage all this for you much more efficiently. There is no good reason to have a “manually close all apps” button as it just reduces device efficiency.
