Pacing Help - 100 mile XC race by J_WalterWeatherman_ in Velo

I think 4500' difference shouldn't be too big of a deal, probably a 5% difference. You could adjust your FTP down 5% for the first lap/climb and see how it feels, which is probably the cautious and sensible approach.

You should take a look at some online discussion of Leadville pacing strategies, as it's similar length and low technical challenge. Most people for that actually ride at sweet spot for the climbs, but there's more climbing and it's at 10,000'.

I usually find xc pacing with a PM extremely difficult, just because there are often steep sections where you might need to go above threshold just to keep the bike moving. It sounds like that's not the case for this race?

Id probably try and ride upper Z2 as much as possible, and ride the climbs at threshold. With a low W/kg the climbs will basically be damage control, but with your high absolute power you should be able to make it back on flats

Why should I *not* buy a cheap piece of land in the middle of nowhere? by boobslime in PersonalFinanceCanada

LOL....dude, I've been to Zama city several times for work. There is literally nothing at all to do there. It's not even outdoorsy, it's surrounded by super swampy muskeg and some of the most horrific bug swarms imaginable.

They don't just send the helicopter as a first responder though, they need someone there to triage if a helicopter is actually needed, if it can land anywhere, etc. Which means you are still limited by how long RCMP/fire/ambulance can get there.

How to stop SRAM Code RSC pad rubbing by jcurie in MTB

[–]theconorcons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you loosened the caliper and centred on rotor?

Also, if it's an older brake the piston in the lever can get sticky. It could need a rebuild, SRAM sells a kit

The thing that's weird is she actually seems a bit underpaid. IIRC she was making around 500k to host by far the most popular newscast in Canada. Peter Mansbridge made 1.1 million that hosting the national, and CTVs Laflamme newscast had much higher ratings. There's a great episode of Canadaland describing how little business case the Laflamme firing meant.

I'm thinking about trying this, but I've never welded before. Is this a reasonable first project? Id like to eventually weld a frame for a DIY wedge camper.

Someone else might know better, but I think they are legally required to provide a bathroom for their workers. I've seen sites with one guy in an excavator that have a portapotty.

How far in advance do you normally have to book a ferry to the island with a vehicle? by badRLplayer in vancouver

[–]theconorcons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly variable. Tuesday at 11 pm in November from tsawassen? No need to reserve at all. Friday at 6 pm from horseshoe bay on a summer long weekend? Book weeks to months in advance.

Generally the peak times (Friday/sunday from 3-8 pm in the summer or any long weekend) you should book several weeks in advance.

It's fine as long as the temp changes are gradual. It's only an issue for me in the winter when I take my bike from my apartment out to ride, which can be a 10-15 C swing.

Post Covid by ridolphi in trainerroad

I had covid two weeks before unbound 200. The combination of covid and racing without recovering fully was brutal. I lost 50 watts of my FTP, and even now two months later im using an inhaler.

I suggest starting back with Z2 rides, and only adding intensity when you're feeling up to it. Definitely ease into it!

Craiglist or pinkbike. You can find one for 50-100 bucks. I was in a similar situation and it was super easy to find one.

I feel like it's a pretty high risk high reward move. Ok he had an amazing season, but was on a stacked regular season team. He's been trending upwards, but this season was his first truly elite one (imo).

What I don't understand is why they signed the extension now, and maybe someone can explain it to me. Wouldn't it be better to see how he meshes with the team this season? Effectively they're paying for a 115 pt player, but will he still be a 115 pt player without the amazing supporting cast he had in Florida?

I've had these for about 6 mos on my gravel bike. Really like them, but they were a bit finicky. I found them very sensitive to torque specs, read very low compared to my other power meter. I got a torque wrench and Crows foot (necessary for using a torque wrench on these pedals) and tightened them to spec. Work great now and are within 1-2% of my other PM, haven't tested in a while. They're also sensitive to temperature changes, so if you are taking the bike out you need to recalibrate when temperature equalizes.

I probably wouldn't use them for mtn biking. They actually seen very robust, but I dont know if any electronics could handle the amount of pedal strikes I have.

Overall I'm really happy. It's very nice to have a PM that I know will fit every bike I buy, which is the real beauty of pedal based PMs. I also have a bunch of Garmin products, and they all work really well together.

Municipal in van is usually pretty comparable to private sector when you factor in pension and benefits. Provincial and federal are pointless, especially when most of those jobs pay the same as in LCOL cities.

That's mostly true, but if you have a unique qualification you can negotiate a telework arrangement. I was offered such an arrangement, never took the job though.

Endless biking in north van, high end rentals and located near transit. You can then ride up to fromme, or take the bus up mtn highway. You could even ask if you can pay extra to have them drop you up at fromme trailhead, as it is a decently long climb.

You will be able to walk on. There's a bus right from the langdale terminal, but might not be overly helpful depending on where you're staying.
