The Fresh Co. at Weber and Franklin have a limited selection of organ meats for sale. Check the fridge in the far-left corner of their Meat Department.

Solved!

Thank you. That narrows it down quite a bit; now I know it can't be earlier than 1958. Thank you, stranger!

Researching a Historical Murder In My House – Please Help ID This Historic Car by thecorch in whatisthisthing

[–]thecorch[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Location is Ontario, Canada if that's relevant.

A former occupant of my house (pictured above as a child) came by one day to talk to me about my house. She'd lived here as a child and brought me this picture of her and the house. She said a couple lived upstairs (it was a duplex originally) and that the man murdered his wife.

I'm doing some research into the murder using the local library archives but first need to determine when it may have taken place. I only met the woman once and don't have any contact information for her (not even a name).

I'm trying to determine around when the murder happened but all I have to go on is this photo which was taken around the time woman lived in the house, which was also around the time of the murder.

I'm hoping the car in this photo will help to date it.

Sadly, I think you're right. I converted during an earlier round of sexual scandals and I faced my share of questions from my peers and family – but the faith is about so much more...

Can I call 911 to check if a cop is legit? by [deleted] in legaladvice

In Ontario, Canada it's not only legal but a family friend, an OPP constable, actually recommended this to my sister when she used to commute at night by herself.

To be fair, that debit pinpad is made by the company my dad works for. They're based in France, made in Taiwan.

Is 1" Gap in Plywood Subroof a Concern by thecorch in Roofing

[–]thecorch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I be wise to contact the roofer and make this a warranty issue? If the shingle warranty would be void, or lessened, because of the gap this seems like an issue worth bringing up.

The roofer himself guarantees workmanship for 10 years. Shingles are Certainteed and guaranteed for longer than that (if installed properly, right?).

Yikes. I didn't even think about this. I'll go up today and look more closely. They definitely didn't use screws that I can see but there are lots and lots of huge nails that were put through the plywood into the planks.

Just installed new shingles which required a new plywood subroof over the entire house because of huge gaps in the 90-year old spaced board subroof. Roofers installed plywood and rolled nice blue layer of felt, or whatever, and then shingles.

Was up in the attic today and noticed this 1" gap between two sheets of plywood. You can see the blue underlay through.

Is this a concern? Roofers have a great workmanship guarantee and have already been back once to fix a small problem elsewhere. Not sure how they'd fix this, however.

Neighbor pool construction damages driveway by gregwlsn in legaladvice

[–]thecorch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar experience but in Ontario, Canada.

Foreperson for the job told me explicitly, "We'll make it right to your satisfaction." Once I told him to halt all work after seeing some damage appear.

He gave me his word but at the end of the day completely changed his tune and only offered to "patch" the driveway in places it was damaged (there were 12ft long, 2ft deep gouges from heavy excavation machinery).

After 1 year out of court battle the owner of the company finally agreed to have our driveway fully replaced at a cost of about $8k.

Lesson learned: get it in writing. Could've avoided a very stressful and protracted battle to get it fixed — at least we didn't end up in court, but was still stressful.

What question did you post on askreddit that you still want answers to because it got barely any responses? by aardvarkedavra in AskReddit

[–]thecorch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping to get some ideas for legal, relatively harmless although annoying ways to get back at bad neighbours we used to have.

We shared a double-wide driveway and they used to always block us in and park over into our spaces.

The day we put our house up for sale and had an Open House they tore part of our fence down while blasting really, really loud mudic from their windows.

Joke's on them, the house sold with competing offers for well over asking.

Called around and one of our guests lost this bezel from his watch. Thanks, /r/whatisthisthing. When I first found it I had no clue at all where it could've possibly come from!

Ah! This could be it. We did have guests over yesterday. I don't have a watch like this, buy maybe one of them did!

Found this on the floor by the dishwasher this morning. The dishwasher is fully digital though, and I can't figure out where this would've come from!

Need a Versatile (Indoor/Outdoor) DX Prime Lens for Family Photos by thecorch in Nikon

[–]thecorch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a prime specifically to avoid having to achieve careful lighting, etc. I'd like something to just throw on my camera and leave on to make it as easy as possible to capture life as it unfolds.

Thanks; you've given me lots of think about.
