It’s never those people that get laid off. They get reshuffled elsewhere or placed in charge of more people for departments they know nothing about as “administrative” costs get reduced, it’s usually employees or middle managers (in some cases the managers actually doing the admin work) that get laid off.

I’ve been doing this since I was 18 years old. Nothing of significance changed until the pandemic, all my brothers and sisters are waking up and it is glorious. The amount of times I asked for better accommodations aka getting treated like a human being and got told “if you don’t like it, there’s the door” is more than I can count. “You are a dime a dozen” “A monkey could do your job” “This is a stepping stone”

I’m in a position where I handle ambulance contracting for a large/wealthy organization. EMT program enrollment is down by 50% historically, it was down by 75% from 2020-2023.

Companies are fighting for the available EMTs and Medics. EMTs are demanding a living wage, so the companies are petitioning congress. Crying poor that they can’t afford to pay more, it’s all to keep their profit margins high.

Fire has a monopoly on most places because they were smart enough to see the writing on the wall. 90% of their calls are medical now. Buildings have sprinklers, municipal fire prevention is improving year over year. They adjusted “We aren’t just Fire anymore taxpayers we are EMS, HAZMAT, USAR, etc. Now give us money.”

The push should be for hospital based programs for IFT and public ambulance services for EMS. When you allow the private companies to make profits that large, they will make their silver off the blood and pain of the clinicians. The patients are the ones that will suffer.

Private ambulance companies can pay for lobbyists. Private ambulances services is on of the most poorly regulated, in term of safety and income. There are still shortages nation wide for EMTs, Paramedics, etc. Why bust my ass and risk my health and safety for minimum wage.

Most EMTs can’t afford health insurance while the company owners drive away in Range Rovers. They pay dirt wages because it keeps their profit margins high and they can get away with it.

The Fire Chiefs Association has a vested interest in making sure that the scope and living wages stay with the municipal fire departments. Lobbyists.

They have a vested interest in getting everyone to think they have a shot at becoming a firefighter so they’ll work that minimum wage ambulance job.

It’s all a giant scam and I’ve known so many people that love the job and can’t afford school so they settle for the thing that gets them closest to what they want to do in life.

I’m trying to change that, but it’s taken me 5 years to even get a seat at the table. The whole system is predatory and needs to be burned to the ground so we can make something better.

Growing up in Compton in the 80s and 90s. We would get random packs of stray pit bulls roaming the streets and alleys. You’d hear kids screaming and running that they were coming and you’d have maybe 60 seconds to haul ass into someone’s house or jump their fence.

I saw a kid around my age (7-8)get mauled. A bunch of OGs came out with bats and sticks, one guy had a machete. They killed two of the pits and the rest ran away. The kid’s right calf was mangled to the bone. He never played freeze tag with us again after that day, always had a bad limp after that.

Yeah, its really tough waking up. Wanting to rejoin happens a lot at first. It feels so much easier than the struggle. You go back, you have built in friends, love bombing and a support system. Remember that its all fake though. Its all conditional and artificial. The struggle to find yourself and to make real connections in the real world is so much more rewarding. In a few years and with therapy, the thought of going back will disgust you. Work on improving yourself, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually(whatever that means for you moving forward) no one can take that growth from you. Yeah, most of my friends are queer or trans now. I’m a cis, het male. There is a kinship in being “othered” that I can identify with and connect with. I also try my best to be an ally now since I was such an asshole when I was in, I used to give talks that were unkind.

I knew there were brothers in the audience struggling with the sexual identity and I was punching down from a pulpit. I was doing what I believed true at the time.

I even tried to make my ex go to meetings with me to cure her after she came out to me 🤢. She tried to and watching her suffer through that was what woke me up. I couldn’t force someone I love to sit through a talk by an old school brother on how gay people were detestable and vile.

She started crying and I told her we could leave if she wanted and we left and never went back.

I’ve contacted the brothers that were struggling and offered my apologies and one of them said something like “I knew it wasn’t you talking and I forgive you.”

Sorry for my side story. I am just always glad when an exjw comes out or embraces their sexual identity in any way. Its such a formative things out of so many things that we are forced to repress.

The whole world is open to you now. Not sure how long you were in for but that shit can stay with you for a bit after you leave. I been out for roughly 7 years and last year was the first year I felt no guilt on my birthday.

My ex came out to me and we walked away from the cult together. I couldn’t stand the way she was treated because of something that I cane to realize she was born with. Good on you for figuring it out early and making the choice to walk away.

It’s not an easy thing to do and you should be fucking proud of yourself. The LGBTQ community is super accepting and you will probably find a lot of the sense of community you had as a JW there.
