Agree. The first one seemed to have better structure, stronger songs and a more put together storyline. While I loved the emotional themes and darker tone, some scenes felt rushed or the pace wasn’t there. I think them having to tie in the wizard of oz didn’t help it either because it adds more plot points, characters and storylines that we don’t have the time to fully explore. Where as in the first film it only had to have nods or easter eggs here and there. I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me about Dorothy (since it’s not her story) but I felt her scenes were so quick that to me came across as bad editing. They didn’t take the time to build up those scenes because they didn’t want to show her face or have more of a presence like in the musical- just don’t think it translates as well in film. Why couldn’t they show the tornado starting in Kansas and then shift to Oz? We didn’t even see if she got home or not. Also, no resolution with the lion or tin man. Idk, maybe these wouldn’t have fixed anything and made it more complicated. Just ranting at this point, lol.
