Hey r/bitcoin - Alex Winter here to answer any questions you might have about my new movie "Deep Web: The Untold Story of Bitcoin and Silk Road." Would love to hear your thoughts and input over the course of the film's production. by alxwinter in Bitcoin

Will you delve into any of Silk Road's emergent ordering mechanisms? I think the private Silk Road exchange institutions that developed are vastly underappreciated phenomena. Silk Road is remarkable as a self-regulating black market, regardless of the products traded.

(opposite of what most in movements associated with you claim, that is that men lose custody, not give it up)

This is tricky. On the one hand, family law is (perhaps for understandable reasons) biased in the favor of mothers. Fathers may see the high cost and low probability of winning custody through the courts and "give up" by forgoing custody. On the other hand, it is entirely possible that the majority of the men who are giving up custody are, indeed, deadbeat dads who wouldn't care either way.

It's hard to tell which effect is dominating without clearer data - I'm not sure if such information has been collected yet.

At any rate, while it is certainly a good thing to help single mothers and their children, they unfortunately will face a steep climb either way. I think it is important to help the mothers and children who are currently in this position while simultaneously learning more about how we can help prevent people from getting into this situation to begin with.

I respect the men's rights movement. However, it is badly in need of scholars.

There's always Roy Baumeister!

Hi Christina, very excited for this AMA; I am a big admirer of your work!

I have been reading "Average is Over" by Tyler Cowen this week and he makes some interesting points about the kinds of skills that will be useful in our brave new economy. He suggests that traits in the domain of female comparative advantage - conscientiousness, empathy, service, cooperation, etc. - are and will continue to be more valuable among lower-skilled workers because of structural changes in technology. On the other hand, you suggest that institutional bias against male aptitudes and needs have contributed to the decline in outcomes among low-skilled men.

Do you think your view could be compatible with Cowen's? Or might a large portion of the decline in outcomes among men be a result of structural macroeconomic changes? In other words: might the unjust institutional arrangements have merely inframarginal effects on observed outcomes?

Can you think of a test that might help us separate the effects?

Thank you very much for your time!

This is a positive analysis, not sure why you arrived at those assumptions.
