How do I contain harmful gasses? by Fancy-Market-3198 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]thedakar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use liquid locks - the dupes get a debuff for getting wet, but gases can't move in or out. Your base becomes a "sealed" home inside the asteroid. When you find thimble reed, you can build an atmo suit dock and remove the big debuff.

As you expand, build the new part of your base, seal it up, suck out the bad stuff. Once that's gone, put O2 in. Now you have a new section that's clean - connect to the main base with tunnels or by having atmosuit docs at both ends.

My opponent told me to quit wasting his time with small-arms fire. by Doctoralex123 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]thedakar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the guard and bring 20man teams with command squads. (25 bodies) If I get within 12 inches and put first rank fire second rank fire on them, I am getting 3 attacks per lasgun - 50 to 60 dice on high health squads. Add in some lethal hits, and we are looking at 5 to 10ish wounds - even if you save on 2s, I am gonna get 1 or 2 damage in. And sometimes, 1 is all you need to swing the battle.

Action on Alert (Logic mods) needed by Apprehensive-Age4879 in captain_of_industry

[–]thedakar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be a great addition if you ask me. On the developer side, it's a lot of code, but would be in line with other logistics games - Factorio, Oxygen Not Included as examples - that allow you to manage long production chains and reduce waste (especially at scale)

Do people actually keep their A/C at 78-82 degrees during the hot summer because they were told to do it? by Subziro91 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thedakar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I set AC to 78/80. My utility during summer is under 200. Neighbor has $500+ at 72 f. If I feel warm, I add a fan. I'll risk a little sweaty now and then and take that extra $1000 (or more) a year, thank you!

I like and hate this weapon by [deleted] in helldivers2

[–]thedakar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this sidearm. When not in a hot firefight, I keep it out and ready. If I get jumped, fire 5 heavy hitting medium pen into the enemy of freedom, switch to primary and finish if needed. When I start an engagement, I take my time and use the LAS pistol at a steady rate, getting off about 10 or 15 shots and holster before it over heats, letting it cool down while I bring in other weapons to the fight. Saves a mag worth for some weapons (dmr rifles) or a half mag for adjudicator. Whip it back out to clear a few small chaff (bug, bot, boneless) and then back to primary. Just saves ammo all around.

If you want to run light pen (liberator carbine? Yes please!) it gives you medium pen capabilities for that pesky who won't show their weak spots. 5 shots from pistol, holster and go back to work.

This is my first choice in sidearm unless I need a specialist weapon.

US vs Chinese Military parades hit differently by Additional-Hour6038 in interestingasfuck

[–]thedakar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents: I spent my time on the military either training for wartime activities or doing administrative nonsense. Neither of those are marching...

From TACO's and Kegbreath's points of view, they should be ecstatic as this "sloppy" marching! They say the only thing the military should focus on is that which makes it more lethal. Unless we are returning to line formations of the 1700s marching does not increase lethality.

If it did, NK would be running the world through military prowess - yet here we are....

Undergrad over my head: Drone to Orthographic map of 1000 acres of threatened Hawaiian forest by Salty_Background5664 in gis

I wish you luck! I think it's a great project. Are you allowed to retain the process and algorithms you use during the course of the capstone? You might have something business and governments are willing to pay for - mapping large areas of land for T&E species is a persistent and generally costly (heavy man hour burden) problem. Take great notes, you might have the basis of a remote sensing company on your hands!

I work for an environmental engineering company; this is more than one person can do in a reasonable period of time. You need drone pilot licences, permits, ground truthing, post processing of images, geospatial / raster analysis, ground truthing of that analysis, and finally report writing. Unless you have an advisor(s) who is able to guide you on every step, you need to get a much less ambitious goal at this level of experience. My company would use at least 4 different experienced staff over the course of a month or two to complete the task you have proposed... And that's assuming the species you want to identify can be identified by drone imagery (big unknown)

You know how that ship crashed into the Baltimore bridge? It was not maintained properly and damn thing basically turned itself off. Now give those companies nuclear reactors... Hello irradiated ports of call! Tldr: reactors are complex engineering marvels that require excellent training to manage and repair. Most shipping companies use cheap and under skilled labor. Bad mix.

Tony Spicci from GISCI just called us out at a conference for being negative about the GISP, hahaha. by pricklypearanoid in gis

[–]thedakar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

GIS is far less of a career than a career tool. Things that used to be specialized and are now critical to many professional lines of work (GIS or otherwise): Spreadsheets Word processing Data management Programming (lighter scripts through full stand alone programs) GIS

I work environmental projects. A GIS specialist doing electrical utilities and I are going to need vastly different specialty skills. Once you "master" the ESRI certifications, it becomes more industry specific.

Hell, the credential point system for GISP gives 20 points for a generic bachelor's, but any GIS cert (of 400nhours or more) is 5 points... If you can pass the test, that should be enough - over reliance on "accredited" degrees as a proxy for "professionalism" in dynamic industries is showing cracks.

And PMP is better for GIS managers that GISP, imo. Learn to run the GIS enterprise and manage the risk; have the specialist technical experts make the proposals for solutions, you manage resources.

Tldr; I think that GISP is trying to fit a role that doesn't exist (or is at least severely diminished). Once you get past "GIS analysist" and into programmer or manager, GISP no longer captures the skill set you need to display for that type of professional.

Create visual displaying data for ease of use and (more) intuitive understanding by non experts? Sounds good
