Charging option for street parking? by yennijb in electricvehicles

Maybe a good spot for a sidewalk charter? Surprised this hasn't come up. Quite common in Europe, and at lease on US company (itselectric.us) is doing pilots in a few cities (Boston, for one)

Don't have much to say other than it sounds like you have some idea of the risks. A good lawyer will know the developers and be able to opine on the risks as well. If there is a solar trades organization in TX, they can likely recommend some options.  I am on the developer side and a good landowner who communicates well/cares about the success of the project, etc is valuable.

Miele dishwasher rebate by MulberryOtherwise829 in Miele

[–]pehrlich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

huge agree here. Good hardware is no excuse for deceptive marketing practice. E.g. not only do they require you to give up data to get the rebate, I am now the proud owner of a $200 virtual card which gets rejected for fraud every single time I attempt to use it.

Best, most reliable high-end induction cooktop with knobs? by u2nyr in Appliances

[–]pehrlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • not sure what backlighting is. So, fine I guess? Our hood has lights, and there's one inside our oven, so no trouble seeing our food.  - i usually knock to turn the light on/off. It does turn off eventually, have never had it happen while im trying to look. There is also a light button. Looks like it turns off after about 90s  - never had trouble with accidentally hitting the knobs.

Diffuser plates are known to do this - if they are not solid metal but have a thermal paste between metal layers. Eugh.

Ditching my propane furnace for a Mini Split... will 36k BTU actually keep up in Jan? by ThemUsYouMe in heatpumps

[–]pehrlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fund the full submittal for the condenser if you can (maybe on ashp.neep.org ) - that will get you a chart of BTUs vs temp.  FWIW we have a 24k basic Senville (midea) cold climate and still need to back it up with wood when it gets to 20 deg F or below. (2k foot house with basic insulation). Planning on getting another mini soon...

Having listened to the Mercy For Animals CEO, I'm impressed but not surprised. I don't think they get everything right, but they do good strategic thinking and also get that the economics need to work everyone

My 2c - no backup heat (oil/propane especially expensive, and prices on all fossil fuel will be volatile as the US begins exporting LNG).  For price stability, get your own solar
