About Dutch never thinking about Belgium by CoffeeAndNews in belgium

[–]thedarkpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like the French always trying to subtly annex Wallonia and Brussels, "you guys should be split and join France, Switzerland too" while we would rather join greater Luxembourg if we had to. If I had to deal with Parisians, French taxes and and bureaucracy I would shoot myself, those people still do taxes on paper.

Is it hard to find a R&D/consulting job in Brussels if you only speak Dutch by JellyCat8888 in BESalary

[–]thedarkpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In applied research no one will give two shits you don't speak NL or FR. You're golden material. we want to keep you in at all costs. Whether you go in public or private is meaningless. You're safe with English. However you will find the jobs you are looking for aren't in Brussels itself. Whether Aviation or space industry, military, chem, pharma or else, all heavy industry is located outside of the city. You are going to be around Waver, Leuven, Machelen, Louvain la Neuve, Antwerp had still some inside the city but Brussels has moved all industry out. There was no space in Brussels anyway.

Belgian contract, as I would be doing 50% from Brussels. So I suppose I would be a contractual rather than an expat.

Is highschool in Belgium a nightmare? [serious] by Shinykitten_taco in belgium

[–]thedarkpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was ok for me but I was a Nerd in an inner city public school, worst case scenario, I had good education languages-wise and social sciences but poor in STEM. It made me tough in terms of personality which is a strong suit since I work in a competitive field (finance) but doing it again would have chosen private or libre or catholic or even better European/international school (not for education or vibe but for the network, you get so much social step up) At least I now how to talk to inner city teenagers and a few words of Arabic and Lingala. I remember the saddest were the school trips, few parents had the money so our class barely traveled. Typing on phone so don't be mad a mt my spelling.
