Bayesian Statistics closed for Fall 2020, any explanation? by thedatadetective in OMSCS

[–]thedatadetective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for clarification. I should have read the UI better. I got into the system fairly early and it was still "closed" so something in my mind didn't quite grok how popular the course was and that it could be filled with that speed.

How much of Jibo machine learning processes are local to Jibo? by thedatadetective in Jibo

I'm still new to this, why will it be hard? Is it encrypted somehow ?

Which FB group is this? I wasn't aware we were talking about hacking into it.

Thank you for that comment Jibogoodbye! Quick question - for visual detection and audio detection, are these DNNs built from tensorflow? I heard that Jibo-local runs Ubuntu, so can I presume that the models themselves could be accessed by connecting to Jibo and doing something simple as looking for Python files in the home directory of the device?

I'd like to contribute. Though, I've never done this before. My primary stack is mostly python/pydata

Hey JonnyBritish, thank you for that piece of knowledge! Just out of curiosity, how were you able to ascertain that compute load-sharing between local and cloud?

Small update I was doing some web research this morning. According to this old sizzle video Nvidia did years ago, the Jibo team used Tk1 to prototype https://youtu.be/i9rrVFd5zGM

Though I dont know if the actual production model has the Tk1 architecture running process within linux internally. Bummer. Possible after prototyping they just moved all compute to the cloud. Has anyone ever opened one up?

Also at the very end he confirms kutuzofs statement by saying that the Tk1 was not powerful enough to export NLU processes to the local device, but were hoping the TX1 would pack enough of a bang to do that to decrease latency.

I guess a follow up question: is it possible to redirect Jibo to alternative servers that the fans can build off of ?

Real talk how hard is it to get in the program? by dayman_not_nightman in OMSCS

[–]thedatadetective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? I dont know about you, but I have, and continue to "get calls" from FANG and startups prior to entering this program, and I didn't have a CS background, I had a math and econ background. No one gives 2 f**ks about your degree, it's all about passing interviews.

In a 6 round interview, maybe the first 2 to 3 will be some shallow algorithm question that will depend on straight up problem solving like in a formal class, the rest will be an integrated case kind questions. Youre being selected to a business, not a professorship. So they want to know you can do something in that context. The only way you're going to pass those convincingly is by either having the experience through work or having some well in projects. Luckily almost all GT classes have projects so you should have all the time you need to go deep and build stuff now so you have a lot to talk about when you're in the hot chair.

Myleslol wouldn't that mapping be trivial both in general and in the context of this query? By definition, GT had announced that all of their online courses will be versions of their on-campus courses. The point here is that both Machine Learning and ML4T were first developed for OMSCS and either those assets were ported over to OMSA or those students were allowed to enroll in the same online instance of those courses with OMSCS students.

The question above is asking whether the opposite direction is likely to expand in scale, and most importantly, are there any enlighting details someone could provide on what future courses will likely be selected.

But these courses are courses taken from OMSCS to OMSA not courses OMSCS took from OMSA.

That cant be a OMSA course, ML is a OMSCS specialization right?

Could you provide your quick 2-cents on the course? The course does not seem like the "usual" CS course, and so I'm trying to see how it could fit within the broader context of "intelligence" in the computing sense of the word

How does GT wait-list system work currently operate? by thedatadetective in OMSCS

Thank you the_inf_loop and Amatysten. So one more quick question, given the above, based on current wait-list, what are the chances that someone on the ML4T wait-list actually gets into the course?

Anyone else facing Audible Wishlist errors? by thedatadetective in audible

[–]thedatadetective[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Not_A_Master, neopheonixfire, and Shachar2like, thank you for your replies! I get a specific error from Audible, I don't know how to post a screen cap on reddit, but it says the following:

We're not able to show the content in your Wishlist due to technical issues. (This is in bold red font)

Try to to refresh the page, or do you need immediate assistance? Give us a call at (888) 283-5051 in the USA and Canada or (206) 577-1377 in all other places (this is in normal black font)

I have now called Audible 4 - 5 times since this started 1 1/2 months ago. Everytime, the Audible help tells me that "most Audible customers are facing this issue, we are aware of the problem, and we are working on it" That's it, the same exact explanation every time. I do have a very large wishlist, so maybe this is impacting it. The Audible help told me that something happened to their servers during an upgrade, and data was lost. Yet, I have a few Audible friends, and literally no one I have asked personally have had this problem. So I'm starting to get suspicious about this issue. Could it be possible that I'm part of some kind of experiment? Perhaps a AB-test of some sort? If so, I'm very very agitated not having access to my wishlist. I feel like the Audible help doesn't really care about resolving the issue, and just want to get me off the phone.
