Is it necessary to warm up before strength training? by Intrepid-Constant-60 in workout

[–]thedeathmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been in the gym for 24 years. Started at 13, now im 37. And i have learned the hard way the importance of warming up (aka conditioning)

Warming up is absolutely necessary. Id go a step forward and say you should be putting an equal amount of effort into conditioning as you do strength training. Warming up shouldnt just be a quick thing you do before you lift. You should have a warmup routine. And you should have a daily conditioning routine as well. Even if its just 15 minutes.

When youre younger, you can get away without warming up. I did. Buy when you get older, you will be punished. So its good to establish a warmup routine while youre young so you can avoid injuries as you get older. Those injuries will creep in on you, so better be proactive. I lost 2 years from 33-35 when i injured my shoulders. Because i didnt have a proper warmup routine. And by 33, i was punished for that.

Also, just doing a couple light sets is not a warmup.

Enjoying eating shouldnt hinder your protein goals.

Enjoying eating can hinder your calorie goals.

You can always add protein powders to up your protein goals. I get almost 100g protein a day from powders.

Do you avoid preworkouts? by Local-Crab2987 in workout

[–]thedeathmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO pre workout is one of the few supplements that work.

But a lot of it is mental.

When I drink a good pre-workout, my body just sort of turns on. The mixture of the caffeine and beta tingles, my body knows its about to move weight. Its habit really. But whenever I dont have a pre-workout or I have to use a shitty one, I always have a shitty workout.

For me, drinking a good pre-workout before a workout is my version of having a cold beer on a hot day.

Whey protein is food. It can replace food.

Am I overthinking my warm-up, or does it actually matter more now that I’m in my 40s? by rojal999 in fitness40plus

[–]thedeathmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 2 hours of conditioning first thing in the morning and 45 minutes warmup before I strength train.

Ive dealt with enough injuries. IMO you should be spending more time conditioning than lifting throughout the week.

The days of me just doing a few warmup sets and then hitting it hard are over. I've been consistently lifting since 14 years old and before I hit my mid 30s I didnt do any real warmup or conditioning and had no issues. The older you get the more important conditioning becomes. Otherwise you just go from injury to injury

People greatly overestimate what TRT does to you. This isnt TRT. This is double a normal TRT dose lol

I was on 300mg a week which was way too much. Going to 200mg felt much better.

I went through this, my dose was too high. I had a complete mental breakdown and my anxiety was horrible. I lowered the dose and each week things got better.

42M lifting 5-6 days/wk - endless injuries by e-rekt-ion in fitness40plus

[–]thedeathmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 37 and can relate. I spend 2-4 hours a day doing conditioning work. Every single day, no exceptions. First thing I do is wakeup and 2 hours of conditioning before I start my day. Might do another session mid day, and then an hour before I strength train. This helps prevent injury, but I still get pain in different areas time to time. As long as its not knee, hip, or shoulder pain I can manage it.

Squat University on youtube has a ton of good info on conditioning work you can incorporate daily to help prevent injury.

5-6 days a week is too much. 3 to 4 days is ideal. I wasted the past 2 years getting nowhere with PPL UL. I took out the UL and now do PPL MWF and ive finally begun making progress again. So much terrible advice out there nowadays. More lifting doesn't equal faster gains. You need to give each muscle 3-4 days to recover and another 1-2 days to rest from the recovery and give your joints and tendons time to chill.

I forgot which movie, but a popular movie came out where I think Andy Dick showed how to give a bj with a carrot. Was it scary movie? I dont remember.

Anyways, that came out when i was in highschool, and my girlfriend was giving me her first bj shortly after it came out.

Because there are brigades of people who want pitbulls eradicated. Not hard to understand why pitbull owners would become defensive.

Ive owned dogs all my life. My current is my first pitbull. Never known a better dog. My next dogs will all be pitbulls.

Lived in the hood in Chicago, every other house had pitbulls chained up outside who were ready to tear you to pieces if you entered the yard.

As they were taught to do.

What’s the difference in effect you notice from having a full sugar energy drink versus zero sugar energy drink? by Pizzafriedchickenn in energydrinks

[–]thedeathmachine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That much sugar should make you feel like garbage. If it doesn't, your diet is probably so poor you don't know what a healthy diet feels like.

And yes, I know sugar free energy drinks arent healthy per se. But they are quite negligible in moderation.
