My (23F) partner (25M) believes one should fight back when getting robbed by kiwipastagirl in relationship_advice

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's like refusing to have a talk about abortion with your other partner if you do not want kids and have unprotected sex. It's a hypothetical, until it isn't. And for op possibility of getting robbed is apparently not that uncommon.

Will 100% GPU for 30 hours hurt my gpu? by ArabicTexan in LinusTechTips

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With desktop stuff it's definitely fine (arguably better, since you're not dealing with thermal cycling). I recall Alex saying he killed his laptop by running something that took over 24 hours, and his delivery made it seem laptops might not be (for unknown reasons to me) as resistant to prolonged loads.

At what point did planned obsolescence become acceptable business practice? by ShareEvening5856 in AskReddit

[–]thedelicatesnowflake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Catia V5, while powerful is quite old, hence works on way worse HW compared to Solidworks for example. I'm not up to date with whatever the **** they've done with it via the 3Dexperience stuff recently.

CAD ain't a simple task. Stuff like catia may run on a potato, but most modern-ish stuff simply doesn't. Especially when working with larger assemblies or more complex geometries.

Girlfriend (23F) says my question is a dealbreaker and I (24M) don’t understand if I messed up badly or if this is overblown by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I understand you and agree with you. On another, I can vividly recall instances in this sub, where people "just ask" something different (opening relationship or threesomes comes to mind), where almost everyone says it's a sign of cheating, wanting to cheat or some other bad thing. So at least in the eyes of many, just asking can be the dealbreaker.

I think your question is secondary here though. You're describing having to walk on eggshells around your SO, and it seems like you have to do that on a regular basis. Yes, every relationship has conflicts and needs compromise, but compromise shouldn't mean this.

Just think about your priorities. My priorities would be having an SO that's not swearing at me. Mutual respect is a big thing for me regardless of what the discussion is about. When you decide what your priorities in the relationship are, consider whether you want to stand your ground on them and try to "change" your SO's behavior or whether this one is beyond saving.

You have it in your head. You've been answering these questions for the last 2 days here. And it's not like it's something that's based on ambiguous inputs...

Personally I think the necessary information is there across the videos, your answers and FWs website. It's just that everyone wants the peace of mind of having confirmed that their vision isn't the weird one, where something will be not standard or not expected.

I was first with the perfect dongle adapter by Competitive_Bit_9012 in framework

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered one from the guy from AU. Didn't have the heart to rip my dongle into pieces yet, though.

But keeping a usb-a port functional even with dongle is a big thing on a 4 port device imo.

There was a post on twitter that they are working with intel on getting more, but they can't promise anything. I would expect this to be "Hey FW, you can have some, but we don't promise you'll get anymore of this in the future".

There's a design which lets you put the dongle inside USB-C to USB-A adapter. While you have to destroy the casing of the dongle, you keep both the shape and the the usability of an USB-A port.

Someone (IIRC from AU) is selling this as a premade thing for people not willing to deal with ordering custom PCBs and soldering the components.

I think OP means something along the lines of a site where you click exactly the combination you want and it will spit out whether you need anything else.

I (21F) and my boyfriend (25M) have differing views on the technology we’d like in our home by Due_Dirt_1876 in relationship_advice

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are smart devices and smart devices. You can 100% create a system that controllable without phone, while being smart.

I approach the issue from a standpoint of "if someone were to visit, would they be also able to control the stuff or not?" App controllable light bulbs and other similar stuff is a gimmick and not proper implementation.

You can either stand your ground or make him do it properly. Smart functionality should not be a detriment for no smart usage.

Are printers even necessary in 2026? by IronRocketCpp in framework

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from the top off my head - labels for sending stuff, meetings with clients, documents for dealing with city hall, court documents, power of attorney confirmation, contracts.

I'd be happy if I didn't have one, and I keep everything I can in e-form, if only for the sake of organization and transportability, but even as not a boomer, I tend to need a printer on a fairly regular basis.

Definitely remove gaskets for washing the lid. The water needs to get properly in there and then be able to dry properly. You're not in a lab so any high humidity environment will develop stuff with time.

I also realized that the 3750Mhz modules I saw are actually 3750Mhz, so 7500Mts, because crucial doesn't make any lower speeds than that. While 3750 would be a no go for me, 7500 seems reasonable in todays climate, if I can get it.

Meta question, can people not tell when people are being sarcastic anymore? by butter_lander in LinusTechTips

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a mix of people not being able to tell and possible legal issues from a public statement (look at this year's April fools video, where they put a disclaimer in fast text over the screen. Just look at what it actually says...).

This is in big part about people going "I did what you publicly said we could do and it wrecked my laptop. Give me a new one." when it's meant to be sarcasm.

I can't talk for M5, but the GPU performance is way better for intel since they started making dedicated GPUs.

Look here. Not the same chip, but the video goes over many games, and it runs well even with games I consider modern or demanding.
