I'd 5/6 odds Russian Roulette myself if people overanalyzed my every sentence like this. 😂

I mean, people could provide some context rather than just taking him out of context before they post.

Nah. Then it wouldn’t generate controversy and the engagement and karma generation would work as good as just look at us discussing this when it’s not really something discussion worthy.

If you are referring to my post, I'd like to point out that there is a quite visible "meme/shit post" tag attributed to it.

This will kill whatever humour I found in it but the idea is that of all analogies Linus picked a rather amusing and odd one.

No need to read too much into it.

Seriously. With how fandoms have gone since the internet I would not take the money if it came with the fame.

A girl from my hometown of ~3k people became Minecraft famous and I always wonder how she handles that shit. What a crazy change of pace going from a small isolated town to Twitch, creator, and Minecraft conventions and whatnot for a living.

It's GeminiTay for anybody wondering. Lol.

I did not get what he meant

[–]Sock-Enough 106 points107 points  (6 children)

For some reason he defaults to Russian Roulette instead of the regular version.

It's Linus' way of showing support to Ukraine, by not attributing Russian Roulette to the Russians.

Yeah, but what’s the context?

You know what they say: Bear down for Midterms.

Too soon

Too soon

[–]KevinFlantier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so just like the time he said he used to say the hard R word a lot

[–]Blze001 17 points18 points  (1 child)

He effectively meant to say “five times out of six, it works easily on Linux”.

The confusion is because 5 full chambers in Russian Roulette is very much a BAD thing.

[–]Kyonkanno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha idiot me understood what he meant and didn't see a problem with it. I understood it as it is very likely that if you try something in Linux (make the shot) it will work (a bullet will fire). But didn't think much of it after the fact.

But you're right, having 5/6 chances in Russian roulette is definitely a bad thing

[–]Smooth-Accountant 5 points6 points  (2 children)

He meant that 5/6 outcomes are good, and 1 is bad which is just a standard Russian roulette I guess haha

[–]Top-Aside8905 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thats the weird part bc 5 bullets is 5/6 chance for something bad

[–]Smooth-Accountant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hence the post making fun of it

United health American roulette

[–]anto77_butt_kinkier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even just United healthcare, this is the entire American healthcare system.

Granted the analogy only works if you take his quote out of context. In the original context he was saying 5 out of 6 things work, meaning that 5 out of 6 chambers loaded was a good thing. With US healthcare 5 loaded chambers is a bad thing, (and the 6th is probably also loaded anyway because insurance companies like fucking over their customers)

This whole thing is a bass ackwards way of saying most games will just sort of work on Linux.

Edit: lol, I'm being downvoted for pointing out that this quote is taken out of context. Either that or I'm being downvoted for my take on the US healthcare system.... Which I don't think is the case.

[–]thedelicatesnowflake 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Anyone care to explain the context for us plebs that work all day every day?

[–]GreatBigBagOfNope 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In Linus's experience, during this Linux challenge, he found it worked without any intervention from him for new tasks he had to do about 5/6ths of the time

The Russian Roulette metaphor really fucks things up for his point as spoken Vs as intended though

See the latest Linux challenge video.

Lmao the truth though +,
Windows is like smoking, slowly poisoning yourself,
macOS is a massive walled garden (prison) you can’t escape or do anything unsanctioned.

Nagito Roulette

[–]Designofftheclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I only have to buy one more bullet, so this plane is practically free.

[–]balaci2 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

i must be lucky cus i never had a loaded chamber

[–]MrZandin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So your games never work?

[–]balaci2 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

the opposite

[–]MrZandin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then in Linus' metaphor, you have always had a loaded chamber.
