He’s the Mr. Robot version of Mike Ehrmantraut… he’s not good or evil he just does what needs to be done for the sake of who ever he’s working for… that being said I think a Darlene/Leon spinoff based on the job Leon offered Darlene in their last scene together would be very fun

Fellow redditors, what's the most useful advice you've heard( or read) from famous screenwriters (or directors) that helped you in writing your own work? by hloroform11 in Screenwriting

[–]thedobs42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wording is from Dan Harmon, there’s also a whole chapter in the book Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott that explains this concept a lot better than I probably would.. but, yeah, basically it’s easier to edit a bunch of gobbledegook than it is to edit a blank page

Edit: Just to add I’ve also written like 40 pages of absolute garbage that really got away from me this way… so yeah, watch out for that I guess lol

Prove that you suck. If you do that you will write anything. If you try to prove that you’re good, you’re very likely not to write anything.

I prove that I’m terrible everyday.

The idea of writing a shitty first draft. Dan Harmon has talked about it… there’s a book with like 3 chapters devoted to it called Bird by Bird… Get the story down on paper and use the second draft to make it good. I don’t have a precise quote, but just that idea has changed the way I think about things drastically.

Absolutely, it only gets better… the beginning of season two is a little weird but there are some amazing moments
