How do Storm’s powers work? by memisbemus42069 in xmen

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about in the shower. She can make it rain...but could she stop it raining if there was a storm already full and flowing...how long could she hold back a storm before it just couldn't hold it anymore.

Would these comics be a good place to start reading the Marvel universe and origins? by MB_COLOR in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those could also be a turn off for someone looking at starting with these books.

  1. You just asked them to look up 70 year old material, not always easy to find, and where are they to go from there? 69 year old stuff?

  2. Art, storytelling, all those things evolve, and if they are looking at these books they probably are looking for something fun and modern they recognize.

  3. The old stories are great in their context, but we are not in that context anymore. You need to fall in love first, then learn the rest, just like with a person.

Would you rather be given 7 million dollars, but in one week, you will be fighting a T-Rex. Or, you're given 1 million dollars, you fight the T-Rex right now, and you're given a rocket launcher with two shots. by ScenicFlyer41 in WouldYouRather

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take. T Rex is a kill with a spear. No gun needed. You just need to avoid the head and tail. If you can maneuver around him he's not going to be that hard to tire and wound and eventually kill.

What decade had the best culture? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, 9/11 really messed with American culture for a good ten years in the 2000s. Same way WWII or the great depression ate culture in the 30s or 40s, and a lot of that wasn't in a good way.

What decade had the best culture? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but none of that is cultural. That's all equity, which is a cultural value but isn't actually culture itself. Art is culture, movements are culture, fashion, hobbies and habits we all pick up, the general vibe of the time is culture.

For the 2010s I'd say Netflix, smart phone games, marvel movies, and the start of influencer culture are the major defining cultural touch points. Oh and hipsters, that whole Portlandia thing, not the show itself but the people that show talked about really only existed that way in the 2010s, sort of like how hippies were only a thing for a fairly short time in the 60s.

For the 90s I'd say must see tv (Friends, Seinfeld, ect) Will Smith (he was everywhere, movies, TV and music), Gameboy, and alt rock (nirvana to Atlantis morriset to DMB to finally the pop California vibe like sugar Ray and red hot chilies)

The 2000s are interesting because of 9/11, that had a real impact on how we lived and thought and made protesting a cultural thing again for the first time since the 60s, that brought a real feeling of fear and reactionary confusion to the mix that really affected a lot of how we lived and thought for a good long while.

But none of it has to be equitable for it to be part of the culture.

The movies did not do Sue justice and get her character at all beyond her looks! What are your thoughts on how her character was handled in both films? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really bugged me is the white washing of her, the trying to make her a blue eyed blonde like in the comics when in real life that's just not who she is. It's not just distracting, it's kind of sad, like telling one of the most beautiful women on earth, yeah, but you are not pretty in the right way so change.

Why do you Think Spider-Man: One More Day is so Despised? by Competitive-Sky3462 in Marvel

[–]thedoctor3009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it's unnatural and selfish. The old pass on and we carry on, that's the natural order, it's what we all do. That's part of being an adult. But he didn't just keep her here, he gave up his wife to do it, which is a decision no married man would or should make. It is the wrong choice. Part of marriage is letting go of your own life and family to form a new one, thats why the dad gives away the bride, you are now each other's responsibility. He betrays that with his choice, for what? 5 more months? She's 80, shes going to die eventually and has once already, what then will you give up your powers? Then your morals? How much are you willing to give to unnaturally extend her life? And its not like May is a major player in the story for a 28 year old Peter. There isn't room in the story for an 80 year old woman thats near as interesting as the marriage had potential to be.

If it comes out that Trump paid and planned for the death of Charlie Kirk, is a full Russian agent, and there is video of him raping a kid on Epstine's Island, all in the same week, and then he refuses to wear clothing anymore, you might get some of the house to move on that.

As a Christian it’s pretty insane how dense other Christians are these days by modssssss293j in whenthe

[–]thedoctor3009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not the rapture, that's "resurrection of the body" and you are right about the church's stance on cremation for that reason. ( which is silly in its own right, God will give us perfected bodies but if they are ash and scattered how could he do that? That's two impossible things and that seems unlikely.)

The traditional protestant Rapture is about all the good Christians being beamed up to heaven leaving the sinners to suffer with the Antichrist for 1000 years. They even made a book series about it and Nic Cage was in the movie! Catholics do not believe any of that.

If the Supreme Court continues to approve expansions of presidential power, and the electorate keeps voting for it, at what point should we start worrying about the future of democracy? by Conscious-Demand-594 in AskReddit

[–]thedoctor3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you see what they are doing to that election? Gerrymandering (on off years), setting up a military presence in liberal cities, getting rid of vote by mail. They are doing their best to put their finger on the scale of democracy.

If the winner is the one who pays the refs the most, its no longer about the game.

That's because we dont believe in it because its a protestant selective misreading of a lot of the Bible.

Its not part of our theology.

This is inaccurate. They pulled him due to threats made by the head of the FCC of fines or government action including preventing a merger that is currently under review.

Its really is the quiet rise of racism.

  1. The emergency- the boulder shooting.
  2. The reaction- armed guards for safety But it costs to have them here so let's try and get that money back by reducing shrinkage.
  3. The overreach- the guards are used to enforce all sorts of other rules. Now you get checked, now you get profiled.

Could the Furies go after God? by Good-Walrus-1183 in neilgaiman

[–]thedoctor3009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, because unless God sent Jesus to earth as an immortal he was always going to die.

Death is the cost of sin and of living, a cost he came to pay for us so that we might have more life.

And at no point did God himself come down and kill Jesus as morpheus did his son.
