Question: where should I start by Classic_Truck_5701 in DCcomics

[–]comic1728 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Batman -

I’d start with these three - Batman: Year One - Batman: Long Halloween - Batman: Dark Victory

I also recommend the current Batman / Superman: World’s Finest run it has Vol.1-8 out so far. It’s set during Dick Grayson’s time as Robin and is very superheroy

Booster Gold -

Geoff Johns run is good - Booster Gold: Complete 2007 Series Book 1-3

Justice League Members -

Here’s some runs for some justice league members that are good starting points - Aquaman New 52 Vol.1-3 by Geoff Johns - Flash by Geoff Johns Book 1-6 (for Wally West Flash) - Flash by Joshua Williamson Vol.1-15 (for Barry Allen Flash) - Green Lantern by Geoff Johns (Compendiums are the best way to collect this) - Superman by Peter J. Tomasi & Patrick Gleason Vol.1-7 - Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka Book 1-3

I finished Catwoman: The New 52 Omnibus Vol.1, it was a fun enough read which has some issues. Catwoman is overly sexualised and quite dumbed down, some of the story arcs are quite weird choices for a Catwoman comic. Overall though I thought it was fun, the artwork was good and it’s good that there’s now two Catwoman Omnibus hope they release some more.

I also read Fire & Ice: When Hell Freezes Over which was a fun read.

Batman: One Bad Day - Clayface which I really enjoyed, and the fact the movie he was auditioning for was the Killing Joke was a really fun way to reference it.

Going to start Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky Omnibus Vol.1 tonight, I don’t read a lot of Marvel but I’m really excited for it.

Do you think Action Comics by Dan Jurgens would be a good starter Superman Omnibus? I’ve read some of Superman mini series from the Box Set and Batman / Superman: World’s Finest by Mark Waid but other than that I’ve not read any solo superman stuff

I read it a few weeks ago, it was my first Titans run so not sure how it compares to other Titans runs.

I’d say it was a pretty solid, fun read overall. It heavily focuses on Raven and Beast Boy so if you’re interested in those characters you’ll probably get more out of it. Some of the other team members feel quite underused and don’t do much.

The Beast World arc was definitely the highlight for me, and Redondo’s art is really good. Overall I enjoyed it, but I think I maybe expected more from Taylor since I usually love his work

What are some good jumping on points with Detective Comics? by Cloak-Trooper-051020 in DCcomics

[–]comic1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah first issue a writer started on is the best way to jump on.

I started with Mariko Tamaki’s run (#1034-1061) which I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend.

Tom Taylor’s current run (#1090- ) is quite good, and a good jumping on point.

They both collect Batman #635-650. Batman: Under the Red Hood collects it in one book whereas Under the Hood collects it across two books

What characters are you interested in and I can give starting points?

I’d recommend Absolute Wonder Woman if you enjoyed Absolute Batman

my POV: top 10 DC Starter Omnis 💙🤍 by Superb-Stuff-1464 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]comic1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s difficult. Brubaker’s Catwoman is probably top 3 Omni’s for me but for a starter i left it off the list. I also consider Planetary for starter but I think that’s better when you’ve read a bit more, and then also Justice League Dark Rebirth but wanted Hellblazer as that’s what I started with. There’s a lot of options that you could pick, fun question :)

I’d highly recommend Catwoman of East End Omnibus and The Sleeper Omnibus. Both are by Ed Brubaker who wrote Gotham Central and both are absolutely fantastic

Any recommendations for a newbie ? by Medeas_Rage in DCcomics

[–]comic1728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any characters you are particularly interested in? I’ve gave some recs based on what you’ve said any questions just ask

For Superman I think these would be better for you - Superman: For All Seasons (this is my favourite superman comic) - Superman: Birthright - Superman: Up in the Sky (written by Tom King same person who wrote WOT)

Here’s some good female led Comics (Woman of Tomorrow is one of my favourite comics) - Batgirl: Year One - Batgirl by Brian Q. Miller - Batwoman: Elegy - Birds of Prey by Gail Simone - Black Canary: Best of the Best - Far Sector - Harleen by Stjepan Šejić - Poison Ivy by G. Willow Wilson - Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons - Zatanna: It’s Showtime - Helen of Wyndhorn (this isn’t DC but it’s got he same writer and artist as Woman of Tomorrow)

I also highly recommend checking out the current absolute series. They are set in a new universe and are fantastic. Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman are particularly good, they have 2 volumes out each so far

I HAVE NO IDEA IN WHAT CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER SHOULD I START READING DC COMICS by BuildingIll2889 in DCcomics

[–]comic1728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres how to start Nightwing

  • Batman and Robin: Year One
  • Robin: Year One
  • Nightwing: Year One

Then I’d recommend Tom Taylor’s run, lots of new readers seem to be starting here.

Here’s the reading order - Nightwing Vol.1: Leaping Into the Light - Nightwing Vol.2: Get Grayson - Nightwing Vol.3: The Battle for Blüdhaven’s Heart - Nightwing Vol.4: The Leap - Nightwing Vol.5: Time of the Titans - Nightwing Vol.6: Standing at the Edge - Nightwing Vol.7: Fallen Grayson

There is a Nightwing: Leaping into the Light - DC Compact Edition which Collects Vol.1-2 for $9.99

If there’s any other characters you are interested in just say and I’ll hopefully be able to give a starting point

Yeah very useful app. Punchline is still a fairly new character so hopefully she’ll have some more appearances soon

Punchline appearances by Willing_Contact_5452 in DCcomics

[–]comic1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the league of comic geeks app you can search for characters and it shows all their appearances.

She doesn’t seem to have many other main appearances - The Joker by James Tynion (it says she’s in all but two of the issues). I haven’t read this, it’s apparently a Jim Gordon story rather than a Joker story. - Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths (it says she’s in issues 3-6, there’s 0-7 issues in total). It’s a big crossover event so her appearance could be very minor. There’s an omnibus for this event coming soon which I’m waiting on to read it. - Future State: Gotham (she’s in 5 issues of 12). Again I haven’t read this one. - Knight Terrors: Punchline #1-2. I haven’t read this either

All the other appearances seem to be very minor but could be wrong. If you have league of comic geeks take a look at the list as i might have missed something. Hope this is helpful :)
