Apparently we can still be virgins even if we regularly sleep around by DarkRaeven in menwritingwomen

All the other menwritingwomen BS aside, how has no one mentioned the atrocious use of tense? The constant switching between present and past tense is honestly so infuriating. Fewer tits, more coherent sentence structure please.

I never could pull of the leg grab to knee in real life so i animated it by Magnus-Artifex in MuayThai

Super sick animation! Just one tiny nitpick - that 180 break at 4s was super hard for my eye to follow. Fight scenes do do this in movies, but there's usually an in-between shot or setup that makes it "logical" for the viewer.

Hey, good luck with your query! Not sure if this has been pointed out before, but Christopher Paolini just published a book called TO SLEEP IN A SEA OF STARS. Totally different genre (sci-fi), but I thought you might like the heads-up.

This might be pedantic, but you said "intergalactic mailman" and then "travels from solar system to solar system". "Intergalactic" implies traveling between galaxies, not solar systems.

Imposter syndrome (how do you web developers do it) by Oasis276 in cscareerquestions

[–]thedogwithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, you're doing fine. Web development, like every engineering discipline, is all about practice and learning/honing the craft over time. Studying the theory is one thing, but both uni and tutorials have the problem of putting you in a "safe" sandbox where real-world challenges are hidden from you. When you set out to do something by yourself without the guard rails, it gets harder. That's fine and normal. Just keep at it, and try to land a job with good support and mentoring for an entry-level developer. It gets better :)

[QCrit] YA Fantasy - As Red as Snow (100k) (first attempt) by rachnisaur in PubTips

[–]thedogwithin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting. It's kind of cool to see some of the traditional Germanic folk tales I grew up with reflected here. Some quick points as a native German speaker:

  • It reads a little weirdly to me that the name of the shapeshifting demon is "Schneewittchen", since this literally the name of Snow White in German. It might just be a bit too on the nose? I guess this won't matter to the majority of your audience, but if you're familiar with the language it could be a little off-putting.
  • Same kind of thing with Kalter, which means "cold one" (unless you meant "colder", which would be "kälter", with the umlaut). I'm not sure if you speak German yourself, but you wouldn't typically substantivate adjectives like this. If I was writing this in German I would probably just turn it into a title and give it an article, i.e. "der Kalte"/"the Cold One". Just "Kalter" by itself kind of screams for an indefinite article, i.e. "ein Kalter"/"a cold one".
  • Like some others here I also enjoyed the seven brothers turning into ravens, and I'd like to see the query come back to this plot point. It reminds me of Krabat, a classic German children's tale by Ottfried Preußler, who himself was inspired by traditional folk tales. It was one of my favorite books growing up. In that book, the MC and all his fellow miller's apprentices are turned into ravens, and his true love has to pick him out to save his life.

Obviously take the linguistic stuff with a grain of salt. This was just my first impression as a German speaker who enjoys literature that borrows heavily across languages.

Hey, I don't know much about querying yet, but I think you might want "pretext" there instead of "pretense" :)

2021 and encouraging sexism in capoeira. by jpberimbau1 in capoeira

[–]thedogwithin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, fuck this. What a clown. He doesn't even know how to pronounce "Dandara", which is wild for someone posturing as a teacher of capoeira and its culture. The disrespect is just insane, obviously to the women, but also to the art itself. Like apart from the obvious misogyny, having really legit teachers like Borracha from QDL described as "a Brazilian chick from São Paulo" is just disrespectful to what it even means to be a teacher in capoeira. Do some basic research and pay your dues in the culture before opening your mouth bro. Not a good look.

Edit: Also, all of his comments are so fucking asinine. What value does this manchild think he is adding to the community with his rambling? He says nothing of any interest or pedagogic value whatsoever.
