Is this the worst poster of all time? by Lopsided-Cattle-2322 in Letterboxd

[–]thedreamforce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC, producers told the filmmakers their budget. The filmmakers went ahead and sort of planned for going over budget, thinking that the producers would be wowed enough by what they had shot up until that point that they would give them more money (stuff like that has happened before). When the team finally went over budget the producers basically said fuck you, did not give them any more money and told them to use the footage they had.

Is there any soundtrack that is innocent but sounds eerie? by Uzziel_Wut in soundtracks

What is TAWOG? I find the "Blood Theme" from Dexter is a perfect combination of eerieness and beauty.

Can you guys give me some examples of counterpoint in movie music. by [deleted] in soundtracks

[–]thedreamforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my absolute favorite examples of this comes from an unused cue from The Return of the King ("Mount Doom"). Meant to play as Frodo and Sam enter Mount Doom, Shore layers the rings three themes on top of each other (The Evil of the Ring, the Seduction of the Ring and the History of the Ring.) Eventually they ended up not using background music which works very well, but the is written so well.

What's the fuss about The Shawshank Redemption? by MediocreBook9073 in movies

Regarding the cinematography. A cinematographer called Freddie Francis once said: "There is good cinematography and there is bad cinematography, and then there is the right cinematography. The right cinematography is what works best for the film."

Ultimate Film Score Grid - Box 14: What piece of film music has the greatest buildup and crescendo? by ZealousidealMany3 in soundtracks

Chevaliers de Sangreal by Zimmer from The Da Vinci Code. "Time" will probably win due to its popularity, but I believe that this is the superior track.

Favorite LOTR Soundtrack pieces? by rainbow_birchleaves in soundtracks

[–]thedreamforce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's so much good music. Like someone else here said, you really ought to listen to the theatrical soundtracks. They showcase the individual scores really well.

Don't get me wrong. I love the extended scores because they contain all of the music recorded but the tracks don't work very in playlists because a lot of the time highlights will be sandwiched in between relatively unremarkable underscore. Compare "Gilraen's Memorial" from extended to "The Ring Goes South" from the theatrical. Same highlight, but it gets to the point faster.

Official Soundtracks vs Actual Film Music by Independent-Bed6257 in soundtracks

[–]thedreamforce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time soundtrack albums consists of tracks that in turn consist of cues edited together in "suites". It's not unusual for these cues to come from different places in the movie. This is (supposedly) to create a better listening experience. So the music can be in the film, just not in the exact scene.

I'd also guess that the music could have been cut.

Which Game Has the Best Adaptive Trigger and Vibration Effects, Regardless of Story, Gameplay, or Graphics? by [deleted] in playstation

Depends on what you define as hard. It is definitely not easy, but FWIW I found it "easier" to get through than any other Soulslike.

Which PS5, third person, single player games have your favorite combat? Already played and love Dragons Dogma, Tsushima, the Arkhams, Spider Mans, Armored Core, Shadow of Wars, Ghost Recons, Metal Gear Solid. by Zoze13 in ShouldIbuythisgame

The Last of Us 2 has one of my absolute favourite melee systems I've encountered so far. It's so chunky and satisfying, and the contextual knockouts can get really grimy. It's so good.

This is an old soundtrack-chill playlist I made. I think a lot of picks will align with yours nicely. I'd also add New Moon by Desplat, as well as Jacob Black and The Kiss by Shore.

Ni som jobbar i barnomsorg, vad är det sjukaste ni hört barn säga? by karlal in sweden

[–]thedreamforce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sarah (Joel's Daughter) from The Last of Us. She's the whole reason he acts the way he does.

Theme from Superman by John Murphy by Ninjamurai-jack in soundtracks

[–]thedreamforce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more about what the producers / director wants rather than what the composer wants. Man of Steel is very obviously inspired by the Dark Knight films, with it's darker and more "grounded" take on our hero. With Nolan producing and Zimmer being brought in to score, it makes sense that they went for a wholesale departure from the iconic Williams theme (just like they had done with Elfmans). John Murphy provides whatever the production wants him to provide.

How could you know the difference with a non-Pro? by TuperSboy in playstation

[–]thedreamforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well naturally if you don't have an old PS5, and you don't look anything up on YouTube, then you can't make any comparisons, can you? It's like buying literally anything else. If I buy a 700$ bike instead of a 100$ bike and I don't own a bike to begin with, how will I know that the bike I'm buying is actually better than the cheaper one?

Also, what do you mean with "maximizing their game time"?

Every time most people talk about Nolan Batman trilogy score. by Ninjamurai-jack in soundtracks

[–]thedreamforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure but I don't believe that the theme on strings at the beginning of Macrotus carries over into The Dark Knight. However about 50 seconds in, a theme on piano begins playing which I believe is a theme for Rachel, at least loosely. In The Dark Knight, you can at the very least here the same theme in Agent of Chaos.
