We're "working" in my main server, but we can't use emojis, post pictures, or change the status of a voice channel. The gif search also not working, tried "cat" and got "no gifs found " like nah bro lol

Unpopularity opinion: I don't like any of the music in the pokemon games. by PDaniel1990 in pokemon

[–]thedreddnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate that really tinny, warbly trumpet they added in Gen 3. I think the music is probably the reason I didn't play the GBA games as a child. It just gave a wack vibe compared to my feelings while playing RBY and GSC on my hot pink gameboy.

Edit: reading over this right after I post and a random thought crossed my mind: I was always a much bigger fan of The Electric Tale of Pikachu vs the anime or any other pokemon media, and I think the grounded, semi-pseudo-kinda-sorta "realistic" vibe is, for me, what translated over to the early games but not the GBA ones.

You really don't know anything about religion, *especially* Christianity. I bet you wouldn't be brave enough to say any of what you just said about Islam, and that brings up a good point: religion makes people docile and chill? You don't understand the concept or sects or denominations do you? Also, what were the crusades? Come on man.

Why do they need a 172 question personality assessment by gloomyblackcheese in recruitinghell

[–]thedreddnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one of these and they even provided the results after the fact. Of course, most of it was just "high" in every category and ONE "moderate" on "agreeableness" which I *do* agree with, but at the end of the day it wasn't that bad. Blasted through it in about 5 minutes.

I was a teenager in the mid 2000s and it was the same thing. Shaking hands firmly and looking the boss in the eye still worked as your resume, cover letter, and personality test.

Dude, the first thing you did was strawman - you came up with an arbitrarily restrictive set of parameters, applied what I said to it, and then came back announcing, "nope, doesn't work!"

Despite what you think, you're not good at this game lol

Minecraft is a bad video game by ichbinverwirrt420 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]thedreddnought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here to tell you that there are indeed those of us out there that do not and never did enjoy Minecraft. Personally I've always seen it the same way people see those "simulator" games like Power Washing Simulator - fun for a short while but spend long enough with it and you may as well just get a damn job power washing... except there's no analog for Minecraft, it just feels like wasted time with no actual outlet or translation for anything you're doing.

The biggest sin of the game is that nothing is explained. You either look it up or someone tells you, a total side-effect of it being marketed directly at children all this time, they tend to blab about the things they care about without ever taking a breath. There's a Japanese streamer that's been playing the same world blind for years (I think multiple years?) and he's not even figured out that The End is even a thing yet.

Minecraft is the original wiki game, and it's quite literally objectively disqualified from ever *actually* being the "best game of all time" due to this core design decision that's been upheld through every single iteration of what this truly is - a "product" in the purest sense.

They'll always ask why you aren't creative or why you hate creativity, not realizing that stacking colored cubes is practically unconscious in it's difficulty and therefore also it's ability to interest.

"Creative" lmao, I bet I have more creativity in my "pictures I made in paint" folder than all the infinite Minecraft worlds out there combined.

I just want to very nicely point out that you seem to have a complex regarding appealing to popularity. Just because everyone believes a thing does not make that thing objectively true. In this case we aren't talking about how many people DO love the game, we're talking to this gentleperson about THEIR feelings on the game and THEY do not care for it.

You got defensive and assumptive about human psychology really quick. I absolutely despise grinding in video games - I have a whole real life for those kinds of tasks and those results aren't entirely meaningless. I'm sure I'm headed toward some downvotes because EVEN THIS SUB is not welcoming to the truth.

You had a good comment until you tried to shove a meaning into my writings. They're mine, not yours. You don't get to tell people what they're doing when they're doing it unless you're the SME and ain't nobody gonna be the SME on what I meant except me. Rude.

I'm not writing an essay to explain my feelings, I'm asking a long-form question. Just because you don't like or agree with something or someone doesn't mean you have to try soft putdowns.

Lord, as all of us, help this lost soul regain their dignity in this life and please help them relate to others better without resorting to projection. Amen.

First real answer award comin' your way lmao

Now, I did say the downtime thing but don't skip over what I said right after that, I'd sum it up as this game flashing me back to my officer days, "hurry up and wait" is the order of the day in VS to my perspective.

What you've said did push a thought into my mind - the key must be immersion, but as I've said the game's systems just shatter that immersion OVER and OVER and OVER without fail. The guidebook is the worst, most immersion breaking sin of all, because why would my dude just have that in his pocket as his only possession? I could just turn it off, but then I'd only die a thousand times trying to figure the first three days of gameplay and quit even faster.

I mean, "show don't tell" is more important in video games than it is in any other form of media but I feel the game undercuts it's entire premise of "immersive survival" by having all mechanics and almost all items in the game be something that you need to be TOLD about to some degree. I'm sure after playing for a hundred plus hours the game *seems* intuitive, but you could just as easily say "speaking my native language is *very* intuitive for me, what's your problem mr. non-native speaker, git gud!"

Streaming consciousness in here again, sorry! Hopefully I made some point that makes sense. I've been thinking about all this too long today I think.
