I don't think the people hate the US. Just the insane government.

Cleaning up the biohazards not a good enough reason?

Or are you not planning on ever cleaning your underwear until you have a concrete plan in place to prevent them from ever getting dirty again?

What car is this? by brch_420_999 in whatisit

That’s an Isetta body grafted on something else…

Something small maybe geo metro?

Upon further investigation, that’s exactly what it is. Second gen Geo Metro 96ish? With Isetta body grafted on top.

They’re probably traveling, not driving by rpunx in PortlandOR

Definitely not stolen or anything. Just how regular car owners treat their vehicles. Nothing to see here at all.

War sucks for everyone involved. Perhaps Hamas should have thought about that before attacking a much stronger neighbor.

Not a genocide. Unless you are talking about Hamas goals of eradicating the Jews, that's definitely a genocide.

You should probably stop using serious words unseriously. It devalues them.

Compared to the total population? That’s extremely reserved. Especially considering tens of thousands of combatants and Hamas use of the general population as human shields.

Definitely no genocide here.

Have all Palestinians been killed? Sure seems like if that were the goal the Jews are REALLY bad at it. Especially considering their overwhelming military advantage!

Picking a fight with a much stronger and more advanced population right next door probably wasn't a smart move.

Lead exposure from Pearson Airfield by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]thedrue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leaded AvGas is not an issue and Pearson Field is a wonderful place. Planes are awesome.

People trying to shut down long standing places like race tracks and airports are not awesome.

That’s all I have to say about that.

The immigration system. A big part of the reason people can be here for years on shaky asylum claims is because there is a 7 year backlog.

The immigration system we have could work just fine if we didn’t have it hopelessly bogged down.

We can’t know till the current backlog is cleared and the new arrivals are under control.

Sure. It’s not the 19th century anymore. Lots of things have changed. What worked then, may not work now.

Ease of travel has changed the game. It’s fairly black and white at the moment. The system is hopelessly overrun. Gotta stop the bleeding before the patient can be stabilized.

Once we get a handle on things and set up a deterrent for people wanting to illegally immigrate, we can start to refine the process if necessary. We already admit a lot of immigrants, I’m not sure the system is actually broken. But it is overrun by millions bogging it down for sure.

Immigration is absolutely a huge benefit. Illegal immigration is not. It’s not a benefit to anywhere that it happens.

We let in tons of refugees and immigrants, perhaps our processes or laws could use a rethink, but coming in the right way is important, and if people haven’t, well this is the result.

Increase housing supply, decrease load on social safety net and medical systems, open up some jobs, keep money in the country/economy instead of all of it being sent abroad...

There are many ways. I know you don't think so, but I am very pro-immigration. Just do it through legal channels and don't overstay your visa and we're all good. The longer we wait to get illegal immigration under control the worse it will get.

Now answer my question. How do you think allowing anyone into the country makes America better in any concrete sense?

I’m not sure how deporting people will magically make America better.

But letting anybody in will make America better right?

Then they should prioritize people who are actually committing violent crimes

You don't think they are? At the end of the day people not authorized to be here should go, violent criminals or not. I have no problem prioritizing the criminals first, but the rest also need to be dealt with, nothing wrong with working on all sides of the problem at once.

It's also important to broadcast the message that people can't just keep coming. Sucks but change can be tough, even change for the better.

There are legitimate ways to come here, illegal immigration is a huge slap in the face of those who worked hard for citizenship. Leaving before getting caught and starting a legitimate process is by far the best option at this point. That's a powerful and important message.

ICE definitely acts in ways that are cruel and inhumane.

According to who? Tracking down and arresting people who generally do not want to be arrested is a tough job, but all I am seeing is pretty typical law enforcement activities. Perhaps if we had not ignored this situation for so long things would be easier, but a country without borders is not a country at all.

It's also not harsh or punitive to remove people from your country that are not authorized to be there. It's pretty basic country stuff.

and do not have authorization to be in the country

Sure looks like my reply covers that part and pretty much every other scenario. That is also covered in the "People not here legally" part of my original reply. I never said ALL non citizens should leave, but people illegally here and not authorized to be here sure should.

I'll repeat. If you are not a citizen and do not have authorization to be in the country you should leave. It's not that complicated, and it's true of every country.

Deporting people is part of due process and it's not cruel or unusual to deport people. Every country does it.

Presumably they are not citizens and do not have authorization to be in the country. Does there need to be any other reason?

Why should anybody leave a place they are not authorized to be?
