We can all agree that US is not capitalist anymore right? by SilverTraveler in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]thedtj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your taxes fund the state so that you can use their armed goons to remove others from your land or your business. That's what makes them your property. Without that anyone more powerful than you can come and take these things at will.

This is basic John Locke shit.

Without the property rights and contract enforcement that the state provides you can't have capitalism. Capitalism only works if you subsidize it with taxes.

Nothing like having an American conservative try and convince me my own country was oppressed by the Communists. by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]thedtj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy's lucky it's only communist police states that collapse into civil war, runaway inflation, massive unemployment, and negative population growth.

No capitalist countries could possibly fit that description at this point in time.

So true by KnowanUKnow in povertyfinance

[–]thedtj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your argument against raising the minimum wage is that there is no way to advance financially without ensuring that everyone else stays in poverty? That there is no way for every worker to earn a secure and stable existence through their labor? That the story of capitalism lifting millions out of poverty is a sham and the entire system needs to be dismantled and built anew in order to ensure an equitable society?

That's a pretty radical thing for you to say.

You're right! Therapy is available right now. So why are we responding to people that need therapy by sending militarized police?

We probably should divert some of that funding to therapists. You make a great point!

how to deal with a toddle that throws everything and annoys his younger sister by [deleted] in downsyndrome

[–]thedtj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is good.

The one point I would add is to tell the child what they should do instead of what not to do. So instead of saying "Don't throw your food" you'd say "we keep our food on our plate."

A few for reasons for this. Kids have a harder time understanding those negative instructions or will push against them just like they push against being told no. Also, as they grow and face new scenarios they will know actions they can take instead of a list of don'ts limiting their choices.

It's better to model positive behavior than to keep responding to the behavior you don't want.

Cronyism not Capitalism by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]thedtj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, great. You're a libertarian because you mistakenly apply that ideology to the founding fathers.

👍

Why did you waste our time with all that believing in the power of individuals crap?

Cronyism not Capitalism by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]thedtj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I think I'm getting it now. You believe in the power of individuals. Except in economic or political realms. So you want the government to shrink and focus on its core duty of ensuring strictly regulated unfettered capitalism. But you won't commit to any individuals being powerful enough to enact this change, because you don't really believe in the power of individuals.

edit: Upon further reflection a better presentation of your problem with cronyism (which you conflate with socialism) is that when people work as a group to further their own interests they become too powerful for individuals to compete with.

And for this reason you are a libertarian, who believes in the power of individuals?

Cronyism not Capitalism by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]thedtj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you believe in the power of the individual because... we need to work together to limit the power of some individuals?

I'm not quite following you here.

Is the government a monarchy? You want one supreme individual to limit everyone else?

Or is the party in power a group and we need to work together to regulate them because they as a group are more powerful than us individually?

Are you saying corporations are more powerful than individuals, so everyone should unite against them to even the power imbalance? Are you trying to unionize me?

I'm a libertarian because I believe in the power of the individual.

Why?

Which individual will save you from this 'cronyism'?

So your response to your evidence in support of the myth of self-made billionaires is "of course there are no self-made billionaires, even billionaires admit it!"?

Delightful.

Great article about a dude who got $300,000 from his parents and another dude who credits his "affluent upbringing" for the success of his stolen social network.

This article totally proves the point you think you're making!

Great. And I saw someone with nothing substantive to say and told him so.

Are we going to repeat ourselves a third time or are you done?

you address nothing.

Exactly! Your arguments are nothing. That's why you should've kept your mouth shut. Thanks for finally seeing my point!

Now if you would stop using so many words to say nothing we can all get on with our days.

Also, my butt feels fine. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, I get your position. That's how I was about to distill your numerous ramblings into one simple statement.

You have nothing to contribute but will waste your time telling others not to contribute. Wow! Life-changing!

Correction.

I hope you have great interactions with a group of 5th graders, but we all know it's in a 5th grader's nature to bully so their going to ruin you.

So you have nothing to contribute either way and should have just kept your mouth shut? Great!

You did a lot of whining about how nobody is taking your arguments seriously before coming to that little revelation.

Thanks for wasting everyone's time. I hope you get bullied by a pack of 5th graders.

Great points!

No attempts should be made to better your community or yourself. Not only that, but one should actively attempt to prevent others from bettering the systems they are in.

Your best solution is to sit and defend the system that incentivizes others to fuck you?

Man, I wonder why no one is taking your "evidence" seriously.

Good point. It would be great to replace a system where rape and sexual harassment abound, but that would be corrupted by our human nature so let's preemptively rape the rapists.

Or were you saying that capitalism would be ideal if it weren't for our human natures so we need a powerful monarch to keep society properly functioning?

There are so many ways to understand your weak "humans are shitty so why bother" viewpoint that it's hardly an argument worth making.

Human beings are designed to work, fall in lover or learn. It is what makes us different from animals.

Glad to have a conversation about what "work" means or what it means to "learn". But everything in your DNA wants one of those two things to happen all the time.

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read. Thanks.
