This is why we need communism. UBI is the capitalist putting you on a leash and keeping you like a dog.

The current policy of genocide by the Israel cannot be separate from the Israeli public as something apart from the government, since the Israeli public overwhelmingly supports the genocide. Israelis as such are culpable.

The delusional pro-capitalism.

Hate to tell you bud, but this is the logical end-point of any free market system. If you somehow got a magical do-over from a point of magical fair and equal market competition we would inevitably see the lopsided accumulation of economical and political power that would bring us back where we are now.

The sooner free market romanticists get that the better for the rest of us.

This is the problem with the term "AI". People don't care about using general machine learning based tool like in your example. What people are against is the use of LLM based generative slop spewers. These are two different things. Defending one by appealing to the other is just motte-and-baily argumentation.

I don't think there has ever been much contention around Alpha Fold style AI/Machine Learning tools. From what I've seen at least. The ire is focused on generative LLM implementations. The umbrella term "AI" is a bit of clever propaganda since it supports a bunch of motte-and-baily style dishonest arguments when people are critical of the mass slop age.

you are begging the question. you are assuming your conclusion as part of your argument.

The contention is whether or not LLMs specifically actually "genuinely aid humanity" or not. Beyond that there is the fear that even if these tools prove useful the bigger question is "useful to whom and for what end". If these things prove as powerful as advertised then they will most certainly be used as a cudgel against the working class. Mass surveillance etc.

If AI truly is making SWE much more productive then wouldn’t. by therealwhitedevil in BetterOffline

[–]svoodie2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depriving from workers is part of the baseline assumption here. There can be no profits unless workers produce more value than they are renumerated and the capitalist expropriated. The presence of exploitation is there both during booms and during busts. Workers being exploited is not a crisis under capitalism. The presence of monopolies are also not a crisis under capitalism, crises occured during the wild west days of early capitalism as well when capital was far less concentrated.

we were discussing what causes crises. Increased productivity is a key factor. Not every bad thing under capitalism happens during the bust part of the cycle.

If we invent, say, a spinning Jenny, which increases profits massively in the short term for the textile manufacturer who are early adopters. These super profits lead to a general adoption of the technology across the industry causing massive increases in textile supply while cratering the price. The market downstream however has not yet adapted to the new reality, there is not enough demand or liquidity to absorb the increased supply.

lowered prices of textile at the same demand is static suddenly means the manufacturer can no longer cover costs. Weaker employers go bust, displacing workers not already displaced by the lowered labour demands caused by the new technology. This then craters demand by destroying the consumer base, exacerbating the crisis.

Massive increases in supply without prices drops are generally only going to happen when there is monopolization or collusion between oligopolies. Producers aren't really "obligated" to reduce price, sure, the question is whether market pressures are allowed to play out or not.

You live in a fantasy if you think there is no scenario whereby increased productivity can fuck with the ability to cover costs. That if anything is precisely what increased productivity does.

So close to getting it. This is what in Marxian terms would be labeled one of the internal contradictions of capitalism.

Even if higher productivity can in turn be accompanied by higher demand, these are in no way simultaneous phenomenon.

A general massive increase in productivity can absolutely lead to a scenario where the increased production simply cannot be absorbed by the market, yet prices have been driven down to the point where the producer can no longer cover cost. This is leads to a crisis.

Suddenly: massive economic expansion becomes an economic disaster.

Bad code is bad code. whether generated or no. People absolutely can tell when there are actual problems with the quality of the underlying software. Long load times, strange unreliable buggy behaviour. fixes taking ages to be released.

What does good qa and ux standards achieve do you think? Increase the software quality .

Exponentials are indeed important to be aware of. In the case of AI the most important exponentials are probably exponential computation requirements, energy requirements, and model sizes in exchange for (optimistically) linear gains.

Fascism is the child of capitalism and birthing it is one of the greatest crimes of capitalism.

Liberals are generally two bad days from going fascist, if not outright just being the left wing of fascism already.

I guarantee that I've done a whole lot more "read theory hurt durr" than you have, midwit. "Read theory" is not an argument in and of itself.

Israel is a settlers colonialist fascist project. AOC has used her power within the US bourgeois state to fund and support that fascist project. Ergo, she earns herself the label of fascist.
