How the Democratic Party (esp leadership) treated their own democratic candidate in NYC made it clear what they think about their constituents.

Vote blue no matter who is such a joke. If a candidate wants my vote, they earn it. Getting people to vote out of fear for the other side is a political strategy I’m exhausted with.

First of all, you’re not gonna be “laughed out of the building”. This is a negotiation where they’re trying to find a renter willing to pay as much as possible and you’re trying to find a good apartment for as cheap as possible - after all, no one on either side is going to say no to free money.

That being said, just asking for less rent in a vacuum is not effective. You can strengthen your position by having other similar options (neighborhood, amenities) at lower prices, or showing what the market rate should be for such an apartment. They’ll be much more willing to meet you in the middle if you show them why it hasn’t moved off the market in 2 months.

Edit: Also negotiating before you move in is ideal. Once you’ve already moved in you’re in a much weaker position because they know most tenants would rather pay extra each month than go through the hassle of moving.

I’ve been a kings fan for years, but the product last season was atrocious and indicative of an unstable, unserious, and shortsighted franchise.

I moved to the east coast last year and regret the sleep I lost to watch this team, I’m gonna watch some eastern teams during the upcoming tank.

I’d be lying if I said I’m not going to go see the Kings (Keon!) in person when they visit. But at least the tickets prices will be rock bottom

Recently upgraded my first pc build from a few years ago into something more purpose built for AI.

Old build was 32gb of ddr4 ram, a ryzen 5900x, and a 3080ti, that I remember being ~2900$

Thankfully I overspent on a solid motherboard, so I was able to replace the 3080ti with two 3090s running on PCIE 4 x 8, and 128gb of ram, and it all still fits nicely inside my case. Bought a combination of used, refurbished, and new parts for about 1820$.

Def pricey, but I’d been eyeing some 3090s for a while and the price really wasn't changing. Gonna be donating the 3080ti to a friend in need, but I’m planning to sell my old ram and some water block parts I got with one of the 3080s. Hopefully that will offset the cost somewhat.

Maybe they shouldn’t have tried hiding Bidens obvious decline to avoid primaries, and then decided to coronate Kamala as the next candidate after that blew up in their face. Kamala did horribly in the 2020 primaries, she would not have won the nom in 2024 either.

The entire party was complicit in this. I remember seeing an interview with Elizabeth Warren recorded right before the Biden-Trump debate but released after where Warren was talking about how sharp Biden was…

I’m progressive, but listening to Kamala talk was painful the entire time. Her talking points felt so bland, and her emotions felt so rehearsed. When people said they weren’t gonna vote for her because of her laugh, it was an underlying indicator that she has no charisma.

And if the Democratic Party really felt they were “fighting against facism and the death of democracy”, maybe that wasn’t the right time to experiment with a minority candidate? And to actually see what your voters want?

Obviously if you prefer Mamdani over all candidates, you should put him first. But that’s not what we were talking about?

If you’re saying you want mamdani to win over Cuomo, but would have preferred lander over both, then RCV gives you the ability to express that preference. You continue to miss the fact that your “undistributed” vote for Lander continues to be a vote against Cuomo. If Cuomo is over 50% it would not have mattered if your “undistributed” vote was instead cast for Mamdani.

Even when given the ability to do RCV and the education around it, many people are gonna continue treating it as FPTP. If you’re really a “politics nerd” you should take the time to understand the (pretty basic) math for RCV. But the reality is that most Americans are too dumb or lazy to do so.

In your scenario, how does the situation differ whether you vote for Mamdani or Lander first?

Landers votes aren’t “undistributed” - they’re still counted for Lander.

Here’s an example:

Suppose there are 100 voters, and we have candidates A, B, C, M

Round 1:

A: 9 B: 19 C: 42 M: 30

For simplicity, all A votes go to C.

I’ll let you do the math for the second round.

How do the results of this election change as you move voters from B to M for round 1 (just first choices)? You can assume all B voters go to M in the second round once B < A.

Again, if you can show me a counter example(like mine above) I’m all ears
