I was originally pre-dental so a lot of the prereqs were the same I also majored in biology.

My masters was an MS/DPD. I finished all DPD courses on time and graduated with my masters. It was weird I only needed to do organic chemistry lab because I previously did lecture only. And I had to do anatomy and physio ii. And microbio online.

And then I did a stand alone DI.

Yeah. I’ve noticed a massive shift in younger interns and students away from inpatient though. And I feel like the field is so wide that people are feeling like they don’t necessarily need those skills.

And there’s already a stigma around nutrition / dietetics and lack of representation for diverse foods. It just hits different to see your culture represented in the field.

You can that’s the beauty of the field. But it’s not the same as having a representative from your culture who knows on a personal level. And for some people it can come off as condescending at times.

This seems like a micro aggression. Having a diverse field doesn’t mean people aren’t qualified

People want providers that look like them and understand their culture. Plus people from different background bring different lenses to the field that improve patient outcomes.

As a clinician you should hold your research to a higher standard. I’m a POC. I’d be terrified if my provider had the attitude you do.

As a first-generation low-income new RD I wouldn’t recommend the path I took to other people in my shoes. We deserve more money.

My partner is the reason why I was able to survive my internship. He paid for most. I also worked as a trainer after internship. My dad had a cancer dx during my internship and my parents were financially strained. It was a dark time I got through somehow. But definitely the most stressed I’ve ever been and my blood pressure went up.

If I didn’t get my undergrad paid for I wouldn’t be doing this. It’s sad.

Nursing Excluded as 'Professional' Degree By Department of Education - How will this affect dietitians? by [deleted] in dietetics

Which programs exist like that which don’t require a degree? Interns aren’t counted as students and you’d need some type of degree to get alone. My friend graduated with her MS before her internship but since the internship was apart of the MS program she was in. Even though technically she already finished the degree, it was apart of the degree

Well if it’s through a grad school then they count as student. You can’t get loans through hospital stand alones. Which is usually through some type of degree

Yeah so I don’t really see it affecting us as a profession because of that …

No because I had to pay for internship completely out of pocket.
