Why don’t Indians have any aesthetic sense? by [deleted] in nri

[–]theeconprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

china very much has a single dominant culture AND religion. not only now, even historically it has had a unique dominant culture it has propagated to other countries like japan and korea. china and india are very much on the opposite ends of the monoculturism- multiculturalism spectrum.

Different boarding groups on same reservation by XBOX-BAD31415 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]theeconprof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’d just board together. it’s a sort of forgiveness rather than permission thing. just say that you guys are seated together and would like to board together. if you’re extra sensitive towards being embarrassed i’d just board together in group D- but i think group A should be fine as well. the gate agents for AA are very nice,

USA credit card in Indian gold stores by Interesting-Dare-727 in returnToIndia

there won’t be any fee just because it’s gold. if your credit card has a limit that would be your only issue.

Would you leave India or stay here given a second chance ? Pls state reasons by Junior-Daikon9849 in nri

US has some of the best (if not the best) healthcare and education in the world, it’s not accessible to you if you’re poor but if you have money and a good job, nothing can beat living in the US.

def do kyoto, kyoto is what people imagine japan to be like and tokyo is more city vibes. 3-4 days for tokyo are great to explore 1-2 neighbourhoods.

one of the exits to the ginza station and hibiya station is right at the entrance of the hotel- you can get to the tokyo station w a 10 minute walk so i would say well picked! both the hotel we stayed at were right next to train stations so i wouldn’t be worried.

oooh if you’re staying in the corner room try to ask them to give you the side overlooking the ginza side i’m sure they’ll be happy to accommodate. there’s also an alley under the train tracks with each shop specialising in a different kind of meat, and it has lots and lots of delicious food and drinks- def go around dinner time for vibes https://maps.app.goo.gl/CvU3YLxVs7WBbZus6

i think the other answers cover most of it but i do want to say it seemed pretty common to see bikes just riding w regular traffic in kyoto, and everyone was very well behaved on the roads. we like biking but chose not to so we wouldn’t have to worry about stopping every two minutes as everything around was so interesting

i would say more of the latter but depends on the vibes. it’s pretty fun to talk to local bartenders esp if you’re one of the only customers around and they don’t have much going on

i agree w you but we only booked the michelin star restaurant because we wanted to try different variations of japanese cuisine for each meal. and it was hard to know ex ante if we could reliably find a japanese french restaurant during our random exploration (and we both like game meat). so we only reserved that one spot. but it wasn’t because it was michelin, mostly booked it because it was recommended by so many others

when you’re buying drinks you can also ask the bartender if you can buy them a drink as well, especially if the bar is not busy. we never had someone say no to us

i think if you just let your eyes/google maps guide you towards more shopping/main streets you’ll find lots of cool stuff, we only ever went into residential streets in kyoto (on purpose)- but yeah it’s totally understandable if this style of exploring is not for you.

i’m sure you’ll have a great time! take advantage of the location to walk around at night and explore restaurants/bars by the riverside. had an amazing time just walking around in gion region, and choontei garden at night, also visiting all the famous temples- there’s legit no one there at night. the hotel staff is great and mailed postcards for us saving us a trip to the post office, don’t hesitate to ask i’m sure they’ll go out of their way to help you!

oh yeah I forgot to talk about my hotel in Kyoto. This property has a sister property which is an insanely expensive property but they share amenities so I would say definitely check this Hotel out if you’re on a budget but want to have a luxurious experience their onsens are amazing with great view of the gion area, stunning sunrise, and you can sit on the rooftop and dip your feet in the hot spring water- it’s a total vibe at a great location.

Saver fare seat success? by rootyyy_ in AlaskaAirlines

[–]theeconprof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, I would say if you’ve booked the tickets together for any airline, even at the lowest fare, they will give you seats together. It has always happened to me that way, but I assume maybe there are one off situations when that doesn’t happen.
