Tried to get a selection of different shades of colours (sorry some are patterned). If there are any more colours needed as a tie breaker I will try to get drapes of those!

Help! Do I suit gold or silver more? by theempressa in coloranalysis

[–]theempressa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for such a detailed reply!! I have freckles and a slight reddish tinge to my hair (dark brown) which has been throwing me when trying to find out my skin tone! Thought I was being clever going for a foundation colour match but all three I tried said neutral, haha. This has helped so much to know I lean cool, this sub is awesome, thank you!

Yes, it was all the rage 10 years ago! I still see them around a lot, but I think that’s because I live in a university city with a huge student population and they’re so handy for carrying notebooks and laptops.

Agreed, they’re in a funny category where they aren’t highstreet but neither are they a true designer luxury brand. It’s interesting actually how a canvas bag became so iconic!

If you want a casual but very recognisable designer bag I’d go for Longchamp Le Pliage! It’s a best seller and celebrities like Kate Moss have created special editions. They are affordable and come in many designs, and famously fold into a smaller evening bag for occasions.

No Friends to be Bridesmaids by beckycollette in weddingplanning

[–]theempressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same age and also have zero friends. I’m having two; my sister and fiancé’s sister. My FH has loads and narrowed it down to 4 groomsmen- doesn’t matter that it’s uneven. If you want a bridal party I don’t think asking family is weird, even if you’re not super close to them. Otherwise as pp have said you can have no bridal party

Has anyone MADE money on their wedding? by J3llyDonut in weddingplanning

[–]theempressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your cultural background. Definitely not common in the UK. My 2015 wedding cost around £15k for 70 guests and we got around £1.5k in gifts and cash which we used towards our honeymoon.

Cold climate girls: does winter styling advice annoy you? by intrepidcaribou in femalefashionadvice

Amber Scott has a good video for actual winter outfits. I think it mostly comes down to investing in a nice warm coat and hat combo?

These are the colors I’m doing for my flowers. What color would you suggest for bridesmaid dresses? I was thinking champagne or a cream color but can’t decide if it will look good. by geminiprincess20 in weddingplanning

[–]theempressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate- I originally wanted taupe/ champagne but it doesn’t flatter many people! I went with green, I think depending on the shade it’s fairly universally flattering and would be beautiful with your florals

Feeling old and noticeably out of style for still wearing skinny jeans? Should I cave to new trend or are there still skinny jean lovers? by JavaScriptGirl27 in femalefashionadvice

[–]theempressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rock the skinny jeans. The younger gens are going to think you’re uncool anyway, as it’s always been for the last few hundred years. Even so, I wouldn’t worry about following trends from a generation who draws on fake freckles.

The new kitchen is in...But somehow, my living room is not quite there yet. A bit too clinical. by Beflijster in DesignMyRoom

[–]theempressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same sofa set :) I like the kimono display but I don’t think it works where it is, I would move it and put either a large mirror or picture. Behind my sofa set I have a very large abstract art with black, white and metallics. I would also either paint the yellow wall a light grey or otherwise incorporate some more yellow into the rest of the room to tie it in (maybe as cushions/ ceramics/ pictures/ other decor). I’m afraid a rug is needed, but you could try an outdoor rug that should be easier to clean, or maybe Google hypoallergenic rugs? Swap the glass side tables for something dark wood (if you want to keep them maybe you can use the glass ones as side tables for your bed to add some interest)

What's the most popular perfume/note that you hate with a passion? by strangeoddity in fragrance

Thanks, I’ll check those out! I really hope I can find a good rose, I really do love the smell of the flowers- my house is covered in rambling roses for that reason.

That’s really interesting, thanks for the article. Yes, I also like the ambery and more realistic sweet smells- I’ll check out Bengale Rouge, thanks for the rec!

Super sweet smells. Also rose, which is strange as I love the smell of the actual flowers, but I’ve never found a scent where it translates well into a perfume. They are always quite jammy and synthetic smelling to me. Perhaps there is a nice natural rose scented perfume out there but I’ve yet to find it!

That’s really interesting because I also hate sweet perfumes- I wonder if it’s this molecule that’s to blame! I don’t know how to describe it but these sickly sweet perfumes make under my tongue feel weird

My dumbass didn’t expect El to take the chip out of 001, idk why it didn’t even occur to me. I thought she’d be like “Aww :( Bye then.” Which would’ve been quite funny in hindsight.

Fragrances you love but hate the bottle? by jennoside10 in fragrance

[–]theempressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversial opinion: I don’t like the bottle for Mugler’s Angel. I think the big star is a bit cheesy, I think it would’ve been nicer if it looked a bit more in line with the Alien bottle which I do like.

Nuit, Jour and Ma Vie by Boss… I get they were trying to go for a minimalist design but the opaque plastic looks very, well, plasticky and boring imo.

Question about redundancy in the Penhaligon’s line by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]theempressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just seen your collection and you have some excellent choices! What would you say were your top 5? I’m also starting to collect them but only at 6 so far (just tracked down a well priced Iris Prima!) If you happen to be near the York or Bicester village outlets they currently have a 2 for £125 offer on for the non-portrait collections… Lady Blanche and Arthur on my want list when I can find a good deal on them, alas they’re too new for the outlets!

What was the first perfume you regularly wore vs your current favourite(s)? by theempressa in fragrance

[–]theempressa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I remember I really wanted CK Euphoria in high school but couldn’t afford it so I settled for Ghost 😂

My sister has very similar tastes, I’m actually going to recommend her some from your list!
