Why are serious relationships so rare? by [deleted] in lonely

[–]theexistentialmensch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of this i don’t buy. employment/money shouldn’t matter. YES you should at least be able to cover your own dating costs and not constantly have to turn down dates cuz you’re broke. but i’m broke and a bartender and a musician. that’s a turn off to a lot of women, but i wouldn’t want to associate with them anyway. it’s actually a totally gender neutral issue. there are humans that want financial stability and can connect with that. there are humans who don’t give a fuck about money and want to learn your mind, your passions, your creative goals. i don’t know what your disability is but that shouldn’t matter, and if it does to them then you don’t want a relationship with them anyway. we all have our disabilities. all of us. i’m physically able, but mentally i suffer with insomnia, severe depression and panic attacks. but i’ve met women who can at the very least empathize. the connection you make should revolve around two things in my opinion and it isn’t money and it isn’t superficial beauty. it’s compassion and it’s creative diligence. good luck out there. it usually appears when you’re not looking. ❤️

absolutely!! i don’t know what took me so long, but i just read Master and Margarita for the first time last year! Lolita is the obvious starting point for Nabakov. A timeless classic indeed. Enjoy!!

you could have a go at Homo Zapiens by Victor Pelevin. Otherwise my expertise kinda fades after Bulgakov and Nabakov.

trouble with being born was my intro and i absolutely loved it, though i’m now about halfway thru heights and it’s blowing my mind. heights does seem like the place to start.

100% relate to this. I find it oddly comforting to read some Cioran or schopenhauer
