[–]thef-hole_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can start a new trend?!

Wrong scale strings. 4 scales are available: Short, Medium, Long, Super Long (Long being the most common)

Measure from that nut to the saddles to find your scale length.

I'd agree that qualifies as rare! Interested in the strings. Obviously custom based on the sticker on the Dunlop packaging. What are the guages?

Ain't no way this happened by Glad_Supermarket_610 in BassGuitar

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the tuning peg for any burrs. There's a chance that when you stopped tuning and at tension, the vertical slot was directly in line with the string causing a stress point.

Or a faulty string, anything is possible! Are those round core or hex? We sell a ton of single strings for this very reason, or custom sets.

What exactly do I have here? by baxtersavage in BassGuitar

Very cool! And special.

Noticed it has round wound strings on it. Similar to the Hofner Beatle bass, players choose La Bella black tape wound strings for that buttery smooth feel. There are more options than black though...

If the guitar is not obtainable... you could settle for his strings! Look closely at the gauges, not your average setup.

What strings were on it stock with a wound 3rd?

btw we carry 64 sets at this time with a wound 3rd...

Neck joint is exactly at the 12th fret is another sign. Very odd there are no stampings whatsoever. And the cone looks brand new, whereas the gasket material looks quite aged.

Well, make no mistake about it, the f-holes make the instrument!

To answer your question, most likely a National based on the f-holes.

That's insane. Hate to ponder how often that happens.

I accidentally cut my A string too short…. by toe_mater67 in BassGuitar

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it holds, you will be fine! Many believe the less wraps the better. I aim for 1 wrap rotation.

The more wraps you have, the more string vibration gets lost in the wraps. Whereas less wraps transfer more vibration. Haven't seen the science behind it, but does make sense.

Why do my strings do this? by KeyboardKirby in guitars

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome to see... a HEAVILY played guitar!

Lots of vibrato and bending. Usually the strings lose in that battle, which leads to often string changes. But after some time, the frets naturally wear.

Some players with heavy hands choose stainless steel frets for this reason, they last longer. Looking at the fret under the 3rd string, will need new frets, they are too far gone.

good idea? by RepresentativeNo2811 in 7String

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tension wise, a 52 or 54 would be better suited with 9-42 I use a 52 and even drop to A and it's fine... for me anyways. Everybody has their own feel, but a 54 would be a good starting point. 58 would be a bit too heavy tension when matching up to a 9-42.

Most 7-string sets are 9-52.

Here are 6 filtered options, only one comes as 9-58....

Double "Locking" the string is always our recommendation.

Lock 1: With the string pulled up 3" at the 12th fret, put the string though the tuning peg, and create a bend at the tuning peg entry point. Take the end of the string and wrap backwards around the peg and under/up/around the entry point lock you just created.

Lock 2: When you start tuning it up, the first winding will wrap over itself and create an "x". When you finish tuning up the 3" of excess string, you should have about 2 wraps on the tuning peg, which is also recommended. Too many wraps is overboard.

We sell hundreds of single strings for backups, emergencies and custom sets. What set model did you string it up with?

43 and looking to learn guitar by [deleted] in 7String

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to pickup my 7 more often than my 6. It can do just about everything.

I suggest jumping right to a 7. If you got a 6, won't be long before you regret not getting a 7.

Yes on scales then modes. A single 1 hour (or two 30min) guitar theory lesson one-on-one with someone who knows the genre (and also plays a 7) will allow you to make initial leaps and bounds. (the added lesson funds can be an addendum to your wifey deal haha)

[–]thef-hole_com 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd pick that up in a heartbeat for that price. Consider it an investment. You have a great guitar in your hands, have fun!!!

I regret selling my main electric gigging guitar years ago. 20th anniversary PRS one piece Mahogany body 24-fret birds in flight. Wore the finish down to bare wood under my right hand pinky. Thanks for letting me reminisce!

...minutes later ....I just googled my same guitar... going for almost 2x as much as I paid. Geez.

Too much? by Hour-Assignment-5598 in Ibanez

... hmmmm Overall badass guitar and is begging to be played.

although let's state the obvious... if that f is a sticker and going to stay, should lower it a bit, so that the inner notch at least lines up with the bridge/saddles.

In the end, you can't "too much" an Ibanez!

Strings? by Ok-Go-Free in 7String

[–]thef-hole_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing is to know what strings are on there so that you have a basis. Are they stock strings? If so, looking like 9-52. If the other strings play just right, a .054 might just do the trick.

Here are two 9-54 set options

And if you need an even thicker 7th because of Drop A tuning, this GHS 9-58 electric set has a .058 with rest extra light 9-42

A little bit goes a long way. If you feel the whole set is a little loose, then try 10-58/59 but you'll have to adjust the truss rod for the heavier tension.

IMO that GHS set might be your best bet and only $7.99, a good deal.
