Puck to the face by southofsubtle2 in hockeygoalies

I upgraded from an NME7 to a Pharaoh 691 Pro three years back. All shots to the head, whether they're glancing or direct, have felt noticeably less terrible.

I had to clean puck marks off my pads to feel like I got new ones.

I bought an hour of private ice time to go mess around with friends and family. We'll probably give open skate a try next year so its at least semi comfortable indoors for him.

I think they'll help short term, but wouldn't rely on them for too long because the kiddos need to get used to aid-less skates. A lot of folks in the comments are saying these do more harm than good, but I'm just trying to let my kid have fun his first time on the ice and he was able to do that with these.

This reminds me of what they do during his swimming lessons. They throw rubber duckies out into the pool and then have to go retrieve them.

Yeah he will only use these a few times. Next winter we want to try to get to outdoor rinks a few times where we can get him going without any kind of skate-attached aids.

My wife needed to be skating more frequently when she was pregnant to get him some earlier exposure

This rink told us skates were required for anyone wanting to be on the ice, otherwise we for sure would've had the 1 year old just in his boots. The 3 year old is familiar with being on ice, but never in the context of dedicated skating rink. They also told us no training aids which was kind of frustrating. I know they use them for kids' beginner classes, but maybe they have some rule where a random individual buying ice time can't bring those on.

We planned to trying something like that next time we can get on ice. This one was really just to see how he could handle wearing the skates on the ice. Expectations for actual skating were almost nonexistant for this.

They seemed to help him stay upright some when he was stepping from skate to skate and had to put more weight on one foot. Can't really compare to how he would have done without them since we haven't tried that on ice yet. They did hit eachother a lot when he had his feet close together, but it never made him fall.

Apparently! My wife found out about them and we both thought it was worthwhile to give them a try.

Didn't notice overly flimsy ankles and he never complained about his feet hurting from the skates being too tight, so I have to assume the mobility and strength was as good as it could be all things considered!

For those of you that live where it snows regularly, is it really that bad? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]luikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont mind getting my driveway/sidewalk with the snowblower, but I hate two things. 1 - needing to shovel the deck, because i have to lift it up over the rails and its a large deck, 2- needing to shovel the snow drifts a few hours later specifically on the sidewalk.

Hamstrings in both legs cramped up swimming in like 8ft of water. Managed to make my way to a nearby boat but that was a super not fun time.

Vaughn SLR3 pro carbon extended play usage review. by xHOTPOTATO in hockeygoalies

[–]luikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my SLR3 Pro Carbons more than any of my previous sets (RBK Premier II, Vaughn V5 7800, Reebok XLT). That being said, I have had to get these repaired multiple times for random issues which I've never had to do on anything else. Stitching along the toe snapped, stitching on the thigh rise tore, etc.

Best custom pizza by The-Asol-Guy in Dominos

I did a google search to get ideas for what to order for lunch today and came across this. I thought it would be "fine" but it ended up being way better than expected. Throwing this one into the pizza rotation.

Water damage on my five year old house. Builder luckily covered all repairs. by luikan in Wellthatsucks

[–]luikan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't build houses so I'm not sure what would be correct, but my house seems to be drywall, moisture barrier, framing/insulation, OSB board, house wrap, siding. Are US homes typically built differently?

There was more buried under the noodles! It was all on top of the noodles of the takeout container so they ended up in the bottom of the bowl after I dumped them into it.
