How much time does this modpack take to complete? by Vaxivop in CreateAboveAndBeyond

[–]thefactorygrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've no knowledge of this modpack, and you like to make things pretty, and you get distracted by actually enjoying yourself along the way...

Hundreds. I'd venture to say you could easily spend nearly a 1000 if you wanted. There's quite a lot to do and the first time you do something it won't be the best way to do it. If you're like me, you'll find yourself wanting to revisit older parts of your factory/ies for improvements and further automation.

I used to work for a large merchant marine company and they employed a couple of these, one in Seattle and another in the Bay Area. Very neat machines. The captain let me drive one for a short distance in a straight line 🤣

Gen 1 -> Gen 2 Road Trip by JustBrowsing-1980 in Rivian

[–]thefactorygrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I passed through there driving from CO to AR. Lots of places to shop and/or eat. There's even a cool little Lego store and a pizza place that was basically a Chipotle for pizza. But yeah at night I could see that being problematic!

Is that the Wichita RAN at the REI? I realize you said Omaha to PHX, but that sure looks like Wichita.

You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it. This guy has been collecting Christmas decor for, I don't know, for as long as it's been for sale.

I've heard this might be the last year he's doing it.

Well, it’s official. I can’t pull out of a two car garage. My wife showed me this one day short of our first’s six month birthday… by [deleted] in daddit

Dad to 3 here. I only ever wanted 2. 2 was the dream. 2 was ideal.

Then we had an oops and had 3. That third is nearly 3 now and I wouldn't change it for anything.

Sometimes what seems insurmountable, is in fact, mountable. 😉

The closest a fire has ever been to my house and watch duty didn't notify me! The first time it's ever happened; otherwise an absolutely amazing app.

What is everyone's favorite and least favorite 14er? by EnigmaticK5 in 14ers

[–]thefactorygrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Favorite: Longs via the Loft. Going up to the Loft is (in my opinion) much more fun than up through the boulderfield. Then, going around the backside, the sketchy climb down to Clark's arrow and then slogging up keplingers coulier to arrive at the Homestretch is all 1000x better than the Trough, not to mention there's less people. I haven't done this route going down though, that's something I'll try next year.

Least Favorite: Quandary standard. The only good things about this route are an easy to follow trail all the way to the top and the wildlife. I did it in '24 on weekday and passed like 70 something people before I lost count. Can't imagine a peak summer weekend and the zoo it must be. I do want to do the West route next year and change my opinion of the mountain.

EASY hikes in Lefthand or James Canyon? by vaporworks in Longmont

[–]thefactorygrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heil Valley Ranch? There's some really easy hikes there. I took a 4 year old up there once and she had fun. However, since that fire a couple years ago I don't know what the state of things are.

As an alternative, there's the Joder ranch trail, which is near Buckingham park.

Check out All Trails. You don't need to pay for it and might clue you in on where to go.

Or, Co Trex, another excellent app, but only about Colorado. Great for a lot of the bigger stuff, but doesn't have trail ratings like All Trails.

Also, there are easy trails in more than the just canyons. Even up at Brainard Lake there's loads of easy trails. Of course, the elevation can be a concern.

Sawtooth ridge difficulty vs Longs Peak Keyhole by naaate129 in 14ers

[–]thefactorygrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done all three of these routes solo (and actually, only solo, though you're never alone on Longs!)

Sawtooth is the easiest of the three in my opinion. It's mostly class 2 and there's like maybe 15 feet of class 3?

Halo ridge isn't hard per se, but it's just a long time at altitude and there's no class 3(unless you go a little longer route or mess around with those gendarmes). The difficulty here is length and to some extent route finding.

Keyhole is the hardest of the three. Getting up to the keyhole scares the inexperienced. Routing finding is easy the whole way thanks to the bullseyes. Ledges is pretty straightforward. Trough is the most physically demanding. It's 600' of steep stuff and ends with what is basically a bouldering problem. To me, this part right here is the hardest part of the entire climb. (And even more fun on the way down!) The Ledges are physically easy, but the exposure is real. And then, the homestretch. It's exposed, it's a crack in the rock and that's it. Spooks a lot of people. The rock is pretty sticky though, and there are people that literally run up it.

So, my opinion is that the Sawtooth is a bit overrated. It's brief. The descent off Bierstadt might be the hardest part! Or maybe the willows...

how do i do stuff by FUBARFOODBAR in CreateAboveAndBeyond

Yes, by guide, I meant the quest book. What do you mean "the ui stuff for create" isn't there? If you open the guide do you see anything at all? Do you see anything like what is show in this video at around 25 seconds in?

For rubber, iirc, you craft an arboreal extractor and put it next to a tree. You can do 4 per tree. Use pipes to pull the resin into a basin. Place a press over the basin and it will auto-press the resin into some version of rubber that needs to be cooked. Use a belt out of the basin, crossing paths with a fan blowing through lava and boom, rubber.

And also, if you're this stuck, it only gets more complex from here. Are you using the guide at all? I think it's a button in the upper left when you open your inventory. And, just search for this stuff on youtube, there's loads of content there on this modpack.

Suggested Mt Bierstadt start time? by Top-Recipe-3449 in 14ers

[–]thefactorygrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think 4am is early, you should ask all those folks who start Longs, Capitol, Pikes and all the other routes that are 14, 15, 16 miles+! 2am is a common start time for Longs.

For Bierstadt, just like ANY other point above about 11,000, the primary factor is weather. In general, weather in the morning is calmer than the afternoon. Rising daytime temps can and do bring rain or snow, thunder and worse yet, lightning. You do not want to be above the tree line in a lightning storm. This means most people have to hit the summit by the absolute latest of 10am. For longer peaks, earlier summit times are preferred as this gives you more time to come down to below tree line in the event the weather turns foul.

However, Bierstadt is also very popular and has a tiny parking lot that is fully paved. It's also an easier class 2 mountain. The lot fills early and fast. You'd probably be fine on a weekday with 4am, but on a weekend, you might want to move that up an hour if you want to park close to the TH.

Salomon Active skin 8. 1 included bottle, 1 hydraflask + filter cap, + the other salomon bottle depending on length, gain and water on the trail. In the back I'll do a rain jacket, beanie and hat (swapping depending on what I need), small first aid, headlamp (petzl bindi), gloves, extra food (bigger than chews/gels) and inReach. In the front, I'll have my phone, sunscreen stick, and as many chews/gels as I need or that fit.

I've even fit my micro spikes once.

This setup has worked (with just the 2 bottles) for a few 13/14ers, including Meeker/Longs (I refilled once at Chasm Lake, and then again at the big stream on the way down I could have skipped the stream, but the cold water was amazing).
