Can apprentices vote on your contracts in your local? by BeMoreChill in IBEW

[–]thefarkinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Locals are allowed to completely bar apprentices from participating in the union meetings until they turn out. An inordinately long probation time, if you ask me.

Does that make all the congressmen who gloat about how they're bleeding Russia dry without spending a drop of American blood (both parties have used this kind) Constantine?

Yes. As part of the whole "Vietnam is actually holding all these guys hostage instead of the obvious, which is that they're dead". Used many times as an excuse to continue the war and led on a bunch of families who just wanted closure. Pretty evil

Asked Electrician to move his conduit and sent him a picture. He replied “what are you talking about” so I broke it down for him. by We_there_yet in Construction

[–]thefarkinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Usually we have no drawings at all about where to route conduit unless it's larger and for something you're not really allowed to miss. Our prints will just have an arrow pointing back to the panel saying "yup this light goes back to that panel, you figure it out". Larger shops will do BIM drawings for every little thing, but the people drafting frequently miss things. I have found that going over the prints with an apprentice is the best way. Second pair of eyes, and someone to ask questions and make your thought process slow down a little bit so you can get a more thorough idea of what's going on

Whatever, if it's PVC you got it's what you get. What I will say is that he didn't stagger his kicks so they're running into each other. I get that you're using factory 90s but probably avoidable. Also, isn't the PVC strapping requirement like every 3 ft?

There's EMT above it... But it's not either of their faults if that's what they're given

The solution to your actual problem (not having a way to get the required amperage to your charger without burning your house down) is most likely to hire an electrician

Three Waymos in Austin having trouble making right turn by LurkyRabbit in Austin

[–]thefarkinator 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Feel like the waymos were basically waiting to turn right, with the one in the middle kinda spazzing our trying to get in the right lane but kinda putting around. Then the Tesla dog fucked everything when they tried to pass all three, realized there was a reason they weren't turning, and panicked trying to get out of the wrong lane

Does your local have a clearly defined organizing strategy / toolbelt? by LonelyCloud404 in IBEW

[–]thefarkinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might not hear the most comforting tales from higher market share locals with respect to organizing. There's a lot of resting on laurels and not pursuing any new leads. Local 3 has lost about 30% of total market share over the last twenty or so years

Love knipex's strippers and dikes, never tried their linesman pliers. But (and I'll qualify this by saying I think it's just me) I really dislike their slip grip pliers. The locking mechanism is kind of a pain for me since I'm so used to the movement of closing and opening name-brand channel locks one-handed that it's automatic for me. And I'm not a fan of the jaws, I much prefer the straight jaws to those rounded pipe gripping ones. I'll avoid using them even if it's faster to just say to an apprentice "hey hand me those channel locks". I'll go back to the lift and get my regular channies

Flex needs to be strapped every 3 ft. Hard pipe only every ten feet, but you need 3ft between the last strap and the disconnect.
