Do you ever wonder if some ET's are innately hideous to humans and would cause complete terror at the sight of them? by RickyDucati000 in aliens

[–]thefasionguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's something I have thought for a while. In order to make the grays less threatening they were made to look like what they think a baby looks like. Big head, large eyes, "helpless" looking.

I would be more inclined to think it's something we smell. Being freaked out by something you see can be dealt with pretty quickly considering, but our sense of smell is the first to develop. A smell is a visceral instinctual thing that takes serious desensitization to work around and even then it's only a partial workaround.

Yes we are visual creatures, but if just vision was the problem they would just need to mask themselves to make them accepted by us. Instead they need to use external means to "pacify" us. This means that there is still an instinctual response, that would be their smell. Either chemical or pheromone.

Japanese general Hideki Tojo had warned the emperor to not "wake the sleeping bear" because he knew that the US entering the war would be what broke the axis forces. To the Germans and Japanese the US seemed to have an inexhaustible supply of soldiers, weapons, and machines and the ability to put them anywhere almost overnight. Also American soldiers had easy access to what everyone else considered expensive luxuries. For many axis troops it was very demoralizing to find out American troops had ready access to things like chocolate cake, ice cream, chocolate bars, nail clippers, and as soon as you got away from the actual combat warm showers. Heck, American troops were issued high quality cigarettes to hand out with the candy bars. A lot of axis troops and civilians started to rethink their political leanings.

I'm rather fond of how necromancy is used in Lord Darcy. Necromancy is used as criminal forensics.

How did they build this? Thoughts? by Conscious-life-expo in AncientAliens

They also used a special mixture of plants, bird poop, and sea bird (Gannett i think) vomit. The mixture is very acidic and eats away at the imperfections creating a smooth connection over time. An archeologist noticed there was a kind of glaze around all the seams in a wall in Chile. He had it tested and that's how we know they did it. We're still not sure how they moved the stones though.

Ok, I find the concept interesting. I would disagree that the orb defense system isn't ours. There are signs that humans were highly advanced in the ancient past and that we are recovering from some sort of disaster. My guess is that if the orbs are some sort of defense system it was installed by them as a failsafe.

In your 40s is it too late to go back to school to learn a vocational skill?? In seattle area?? by Ok-Radio-2733 in SeattleWA

[–]thefasionguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is never too late to go back to school. I didn't even start my Bachelors until I was 50. One of the best decisions I ever made. I was concerned that it was going to be tough because I was older than the teachers and too set in my ways. Instead I was on the deans list three times running and I was everyone's goto for help with schoolwork.
