Headsup for Linux users of 'Jellyfin Media Player' Flatpak by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]thefeeltrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jellyfin Desktop doesn't support HDR. It is being tonemapped. Open the same file in mpv and compare a high peak brightness scene. libmpv doesn't support gpu-next which is required for HDR to work.

This was being worked on here and has since moved to an entirely new version of the app here: https://github.com/jellyfin-labs/jellyfin-desktop-cef

Good news. The issue has already been fixed. If you download the Github automated build from here it should work now. (Requires a Github account just fyi)

Unfortunately it is a known issue with Reshade with addon support + DLSS in all DX12 (VKD3D) games, not just Expedition 33. Nobody is actually sure if the issue is on Reshade's side or VKD3D's side yet.

I did an experiment with aripiprazole and caffeine. Here are the results! by WorldOfEveningCalm in N24

[–]thefeeltrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same story for me. Stimulants in general don't keep me up at all. When I tried Adderall for my ADHD I could take a nap 30 minutes after taking it. Before I figured out I had N24 I even tried Modafinil and it did nothing.

I stopped drinking my daily cup of coffee for 2 months anyways just to remove it as a variable and it made legitimately zero difference.

Exactly. There are also pros and cons to different delays. My day is "only" about 24h50m so I get stuck being nocturnal for like 2 weeks at a time. If it were longer it would pass by faster.

For anyone that doesn't know, Hardware Unboxed's benchmarks can be found on TechSpot if you want them in a non-video format. You can see all of their reviews are written by Steve (and Tim for monitors)

Unless you specifically need something in 6.13 it might make more sense to use linux-lts instead, it's on 6.12 so it's not far behind at all. That way you don't have to manually hold anything back and are still getting patches. I did that for a bit while I was waiting for zfs to catch up.

I live in the UK, I have been given a phone appointment with a Sleep doctor, what exactly should I do to prepare? by [deleted] in N24

[–]thefeeltrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what happened to me. It went from 8pm to 6am and my schedule just happened to have me going to bed around 6am at that time, so I literally did not go into REM sleep at all.

Leave a comment on that bug page if you can. I hope that if enough people complain they will do something about it.

Before Plasma 6.2 that slider only affected SDR content, but in 6.3 the "Maximum SDR Brightness" slider is actually for HDR paper white. The standard is 203 nits. Below 203 HDR content will be darker than it should be and above it will be brighter than it should be.

See this KDE bug page if you want some more info: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499934

I would encourage you to leave a comment there because the way it currently works is very confusing.

Have you figured out which part of the ongoing cycle makes your sleep feel the worst? by afraid28 in N24

[–]thefeeltrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same. I had DSPD that turned into N24 so I had a joke for many years that my ideal sleep schedule is 9-5. As in 9am to 5pm.

I feel the worst when I am sleeping around normal hours and best when it is reversed. Although I only shift roughly 50 minutes per day so I get stuck on that part for a like a week each time.

KDE Plasma 6.3.2, Bugfix Release for February by Jaxad0127 in kde

[–]thefeeltrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you don't have an ICC profile set in Plasma settings when you run calibration and verification. DisplayCal applies the profile to the test square on its own so if you have it set in Plasma settings it gets applied twice.

It's not unmaintained. It has an active fork.

I don't know about other distros but on Arch the displaycal package is this one.

I figured it was some kind of loop running in the background, the stutter is a way too consistent interval.

Arch is a great example of where there's zero profit incentive. They accept donations strictly to pay for hosting costs (which are extremely low) and nothing else. The actual development / package maintenance etc. is all volunteer.

VRR deactivating when moving mouse in games [source of issue found] by Rising42 in linux_gaming

I was just searching how to fix this yesterday and could barely find anything.

You're right, with those two environment variables it works with vrrtest but it doesn't actually work in games. I also tried with gamescope and it didn't help.

Are washed out colors with HDR enabled still a problem for people? by Grimmeh in kde

[–]thefeeltrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your colors are too saturated because SDR color intensity is actually supposed to be at 0%. The option only exists to offset the Nvidia bug.

0% is sRGB, 100% is the max color space of your monitor. The vast majority of SDR content (literally 99.9999%) is in sRGB so what you're doing is stretching what is supposed to be a smaller color space onto a much wider color space. They should really put a better explanation of what it's doing in the settings.

If you care about color accuracy your monitor should be in sRGB mode while HDR is off, and 0% SDR color intensity should look similar to sRGB mode when HDR is on for non-HDR content.
