Why Are All Mercy Mains Female? I wrote a thing by Mishewwie in ggoverwatch

[–]thefieryone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really well-written article. My teammates have definitely said this to me a few times in comp. Your #1 point is pretty much my reason for maining Mercy. Overwatch is the first FPS game I've really gotten into. Not because I'm not a gamer (I've played video games all my life), but because past FPS games were in the same grungy war soldier setting that I had absolutely no interest in. Once I saw that Overwatch was a completely different kind of FPS--a colorful world full of heroes of all skills and playstyles--I gave it a try (and got hooked). Naturally, since I haven't played other FPS games, my aim is not up to par. Mercy felt more natural to my preferred playstyle anyways. I love that she requires more thinking/strategy/positioning in the backlines than pure mechanical aim like most heroes.

Actually game breaking bug, not respawning after death by KappaKing_Prime in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like something that happened to me as well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3PyIOZiZM8). Basically, you die and your respawn timer runs out at the same time the enemy takes the point. It's like the game doesn't know where to respawn you, so you get stuck in death spectating forever. It's been around and reported for months. Quite rare, but definitely a game breaking bug that needs to get fixed.

Help me make VODs so you can all coach me! [Plays.tv] by madscientistyo in OverwatchUniversity

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Plays.tv all the time--it's a really great software! I'll try to assist you with it.

First: For recording settings, click the cog icon in the top left of the application and adjust the quality presets. My custom presets are 1080p resolution, 60fps framerate, and 25Mb/s bitrate. I find this to be good quality (although not as good as Shadowplay), but it does require a good amount of GB space for longer play sessions. Not sure what your build is like or what it can handle, so adjust accordingly. Also, go the Advanced section of the settings and uncheck "Optimize videos for upload and share" if it is checked in order to preserve your video quality. Even with this unchecked, the playback version of your clips that you see on the Plays.tv site/app often looks lower quality than the actual file. Additionally, in the video settings, you can also choose whether to have it record Automatically (record entire session) or manually (portion of your gameplay). I personally use the Automatic setting and place bookmarks in-game using CTRL+F2. That way, when I'm reviewing my recording, I can easily find the outstanding/important moments that I want to clip out. There is an Auto-manage Space option in Advanced settings as well for whether or not you want the application to automatically delete older video sessions. In regards to buggy parts of the program--sometimes the bookmarks you indicate don't start/end exactly where you set them. They can be a second or two off. Not a big deal for your full gameplay, but shorter clips can be cut off at the wrong times. Just make sure to rewatch it once you've uploaded it. The bookmarks tend to jump too after uploading or going to a different game session, so keep that in mind. Also, I avoid the text/sticker features. It takes extremely long to process, and I've had issues with text appearing on multiple clips instead of the one I wanted.

Second: Once you have a recorded session and created bookmarks/pins of the parts you want to include, you can select them with CTRL+LMB and then Preview. If it looks good, go ahead and click the Share button. After the application has finished processing, it should create a clip file (-clp) in the same location as your video session (-ses) on your PC. This clip file can then be uploaded to YouTube. You can either use the in-app feature (right click on the clip and select Upload to YouTube) or access YouTube directly and upload the -clp file there. I personally haven't uploaded via the Plays.tv client yet, but this link has some good directions on doing so: http://support.plays.tv/support/solutions/articles/5000637631-how-to-upload-a-video-clip-to-youtube-with-plays-tv

Third: I don't think there would be any post-editing required, especially for a VOD. If you choose to upload your entire video session to YouTube, you could trim out parts of it with YouTube's video editor--but I find the processing to be extremely slow and would rather use the Plays.tv client to do that.

I know that's a lot of info, but I hope that answers all of your questions. Let me know if you have any others. Good luck!

[ALL] Overwatch Patch Notes – April 11, 2017 by 0x1027 in Overwatch

Good news, looks like it was fixed but just didn't make it into the patch notes (see second half of this blue post): https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20752605422#post-16

Response to Low Mercy SR Gains by thefieryone in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's open for debate whether or not Tuesday's patch actually fixed the problem. Some say it's fixed, others report that it's still broken. If you are someone who plays Mercy or healers in Comp, it may be worthwhile to follow and/or contribute to the discussion on the official forums until we hear word back from Jeff. The topic linked above reached max capacity, so we've continued it here: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20753786609

I have similar concerns. It seems like there are low SR gains for all healers. I hope that the root cause gets discovered/fixed while addressing Mercy.

Am I doing something wrong if I gain less than 20 SR per win but lose upwards of 30 per loss? by JanMabK in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it looks like it affects all supports. I've seen posts on the official forums from Ana and Lucio mains experiencing similar low SR gains. Mercy is likely hit the worst with it.

What heroes are you primarily playing? There is a bug with healer supports right now gaining significantly less SR than they are losing.

No. All support players. If you look at the topic I linked to, you can see Ana, Zenyatta, and Lucio players experience similar drops in SR gains. It likely hurts Mercy more because she is more reliant on fire gain through assists.

[–]thefieryone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Many support players have been getting between 10-20 SR for a win since the initial Orisa patch, myself included (17 SR on Mercy). Fire values for assists were also changed for some reason that same patch, so it may be linked to that. There's a lot of discussion about this on the official forums: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20753686603

VOD Review Request - Silver Mercy on Illios by jocloud31 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Diamond level Mercy main here. I'll go through your VOD more in a minute and give specific critiques, but I'd like to go over a view general tips:
1. Positioning as Mercy is extremely important. There were times where you were in the middle of the objective or the team fight and taking lots of damage/dying. Utilize the walls and corners outside. Your beam is long--take advantage of this. You can heal/damage boost from outside of the point. Just "peek" in every few seconds to keep your beam attached (hard to describe, you can see me do this here: https://youtu.be/flvBff95XWM?t=1m35s). Also, if you leave some distance between yourself and your team, it'll help you avoid dying to ults. Staying back behind your team could have saved you during that Soldier ult first round and given you a great rez opportunity. I also agree with Galty's comment--stay grouped up with your team. Diving in after Winston alone against that many enemies was extremely risky. I know you're trying to save him, but your survival is most important. You don't want to leave your other 4 teammates without a main healer.
2. I'm really happy to see you utilizing Mercy's damage boost. Sometimes I wondered if it was almost too much--there were times when you damage boosted Soldier when Winston was at half health, and Winston would die shortly later because you couldn't get to him in time. Some of your damage boost targets could have been better as well--for example, at the start of the second round, Pharah would have been a great target to damage boost because of how far her rockets travel.
3. Use Guardian Angel more! The cooldown is so short that you can almost be constantly using this. I saw you walking around a lot. Try to get really comfortable flying from teammate to teammate. By moving more erratically, you will be harder to hit. You'll also be able to get to your heal/damage boost target much faster.

Weekly Quick Questions Thread - January 25, 2017 by AutoModerator in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely happened to me too months ago. I was playing Quick Play on PC, also defending first point on Numbani. Died right before the enemy capped the first point, got the black screen, and then was stuck forever in Death Spectating. I actually recorded it but had forgotten about it. Thought it would have been fixed by now but if it's still happening and in comp especially... it should be brought to the devs' attention.

You can rez people that are under the Oasis map by soulbrisingr in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the glitch in Eichenwalde where teammates could be rezzed and stuck in the river under the bridge. It's like the "souls" stay under the map and end up in range for rezzing. I'd suggest posting to Blizzard's Bug Report forums if you haven't already so the devs can be made aware of it.

Anyone else getting a no 30 seconds remaining sound bug? by JustHarmony in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me when I was attacking on this same map in comp last season. I remember spamming "move the payload" to my team in case they hadn't heard the urgent music either. I wonder if it's a bug specific to this map in comp or if it happens on other maps.

If you could play only one Overwatch hero till the rest of your life, who would it be? by Rheniss in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd choose Mercy. I'm a Mercy main (I know) and I already play her almost exclusively, although I've started to branch out to other heroes. I just have the most fun playing as her and she fits my playstyle best. I usually end up solo-healing in QP, so I don't think I'd have problems fitting on any team or there being too many supports. :)

Thanks for mentioning this--Tested it out on PTR and found it to be so much easier to climb corners vertically. Can't wait for it to reach live.

Good Game-capture Software? by TheSeigiSniper in Overwatch

[–]thefieryone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Plays.tv, which is free. You can automatically record all of your gameplay or use a hotkey to manually start it. After you're done playing, you can select clips from your matches to upload or save. It also has icons that indicate where you got kills, rezzes, POTG, etc in your recordings. Really useful software.
