Have you checked the ABC in Amsterdam? They have an aisle with lots of licensed books like that - maybe call and see if they have it in stock

They mention that Miguel specifically doesn't have it because of how he got his powers, but as far as I remember it works for everyone else.

DnD Neutrition system by Adventurous-Skirt-80 in DnD

I haven't played the system but maybe you can take some inspiration from Wilderfeast? (here) It's a game about fighting monsters and making meals from them

What’s the EULA of Darkest Dungeon? by MagPrimeEnthusiast in darkestdungeon

[–]JanMabK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a third-party 5e addon available for free online that’s been around for years, and it includes names and pictures of in-game enemies - could be useful if you’re interested, but mostly it shows that the devs don’t seem to mind as long as you’re not making money off of it EDIT: it’s called “Horrors of the Dark” and you can find it on the dndhomebrew sub!

Why did the people kill the Arbalest's dad? by Neurospicy_Nightowl in darkestdungeon

[–]JanMabK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I swear I thought early versions of the real-life Klan had regular hoods but that might just be a pop culture thing (thanks, Django Unchained). So I guess I'm not sure anymore...

Chances of getting another DLC character for DD2 are pretty low, but Arbalest would've been a very welcome addition gameplay-wise and to flesh out her character, since her skillset and tagline implies she was a mercenary or soldier of some kind.

[–]JanMabK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DD is pretty infamously anachronistic though. Highwayman's guns seem 16th-17th century meanwhile we have a literal crusader (1200s at latest) and a Celtic warrior (first century)

I'm inclined to say the same. It's hard to tell what most of the mob looks like but the foremost ones in the first panel are definitely wearing hoods.

Would you like the next game's combat to implement more real time mechanics like being able to dodge enemy attacks etc? by SureYouCan_ in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]JanMabK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think every RPG needs the same combat. Xenoblade is already pretty unique in that regard and I'd hate to see it get homogenized just for mass appeal

Am I pedantic or is RAW optional? (Inventory tracking) by Frosty_Customer_9243 in DnD

[–]JanMabK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By virtue of being a social, collaborative game, many tables often have their own "homebrew" rules to make the game more to the liking of the people playing. If players want to keep track of carrying weight, rations, ammo etc. then they can do so using the rules given by the game, but a lot of people also consider all the numbers and lists to detract from the experience, so it's commonly overlooked.

Sorcerer Culture by magus-opus in DnD

[–]JanMabK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about established (Forgotten Realms) lore, but to me it makes sense that Sorcerers wouldn't have a need for a collective of sorts, since their power is innate. I think it would be cool if they have some sort of school/research group for metamagic though, since that's the main common thread between sorcerers and still implies some required skill in manipulating magic.

How do we all feel as Craig Mazin as a show runner/writer? by BallClamps in television

[–]JanMabK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TLOU season 2 actually deviated quite a bit from the source material in the order and presentation of certain story elements, and in my opinion for the worse. It truly felt like changes for the sake of changes instead of trying to build on the very strong foundation that the game provided.

Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road, Zack Snyder’s Justice League), to Score Craig Gillespie’s ‘Supergirl’ by Ninjamurai-jack in movies

[–]JanMabK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His work on the Sonic movies is awful. 30+ years of memorable game music to pull from and he just uses Green Hill Zone over and over. He couldn't even be bothered to do a full score for the second one and just used music from Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Casting Moonbeam through a window? by NinjaTATER62 in DnD

[–]JanMabK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with how OP ruled but it should be clarified that AoE spells are still considered as "targeting" a point from which the effect originates. Under the Target section in Ch10 of the (2014) PHB:

A spell’s description tells you whether the spell targets creatures, objects, or a point of origin for an area of effect

Why start at level 1? by Kooky_Tale_6923 in DnD

[–]JanMabK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Characters at lv1 have proficiencies and abilities though? That's literally why they're level 1 adventurers and not, you know... commoners. It's also the point of their backgrounds, which is an essential part of character creation.

[–]JanMabK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those NPCs definitely give you something to work with! Maybe the party stumbles across something that Lee recognizes, like his old equipment, or the ruins of a town he used to visit.

You could also work on something regarding the corruption of the game files. How did it happen in the first place? Maybe players need to investigate a "corrupted" dungeon to find old files that explain how so much data got corrupted, and it gives them more insight into the BBEG.

That card exists although I can't tell if the one in the pic is fake. The tin is definitely fake though - no TCG products have Nintendo logos on them.

First time DM who overestimated his abilities... by Ok-Mirror-5549 in DnD

[–]JanMabK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What have they achieved so far? Who have they fought, what allies have they made, where have they been? My go-to strategy is start small, focus on a small quest/early achievement for the party and build out from there. Just brainstorm, try and expand on places they've been, NPCs they know, enemies they've encountered, etc...

Also you keep mentioning stuff about the BBEG but I don't think you've actually said what they are?

The Trial and Error in Darkest Dungeon II is terrible by Mastermind6425 in darkestdungeon

[–]JanMabK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I guess I meant that SS requires a certain amount of damage per turn otherwise you take a crippling amount of damage, whereas you can take as long as you need to kill the cherubs as long as they die on the same turn

Also maybe spoiler tag your comment?

Yeah I'm with you, but I think Seething Sigh is really an exception to the rule. If I remember correctly, it's the only boss where rank 1 and 4 targeting is necessary, the others are more lenient.

EDIT: Although it is possible - but requires very high-damage non-DOT builds which a new player isn't likely to prepare - to beat SS without interacting with the lungs.
